Sorry, late to the party (airTran guy - sorta).I have used the Air Tran jumpseat a couple times and had very little problems. You can call their reservations number the day before and ask them about seat availability for a jumpseater (we can not ride in anyone's cockpit jumpseat) then just go to the airport and ask a ticket agent or gate agent if they have room and could list you on the jumpseat.
For some reason when I call on the phone they don't show us on their jumpseat list, but this has never been a problem with the agents at the actual airport!
Sorry, late to the party (airTran guy - sorta).
The reservation agents don't understand the differences between listing for the jumpseat and listing as a non-rev, so they do what they know best - non-rev listing.
How do the Southwest folks treat the CShares jumpseaters? Hit or miss?
Let me sorta straighten this all out. They have focused their recruiting efforts to ATL, DEN, MCO, HPN, IAD, and PHX. Not BOS or SAT. I mean by focus they sent out last year a million little postcards with some crap about the pilots in yellow ties blah blah. They will and still are hiring pilots into all bases but I bet if it came down to two equal people and one is based in GSO and one is based in ATL they will pick the ATL guy. Why? well they will be better able to utilize the ATL guy on first and last day versus the GSO guy who would certainly have to connect. With the new OT rules this is a bigger factor. I don't believe the base list will change, either bigger or smaller, in the near future but nothing will stop management from preferring people be based in one place or another. And I hate to drag this into it but until a contract is signed they can do whatever they want with no recourse. All said go to NJ if you can but don't wait around on CS to open more bases. They are too stubborn for that.
How hard is it to get hired for BNA?
