Cherry Air slide a Falcon off the end of the runway Saturday at Lima, OH. Crew OK, airplane unknown

Lima is only 5000 ft, snow removal is iffy there.

4-3-8. Braking Action Reports and Advisories

a. When available, ATC furnishes pilots the quality of braking action received from pilots or airport management. The quality of braking action is described by the terms "good," "fair," "poor," and "nil," or a combination of these terms. When pilots report the quality of braking action by using the terms noted above, they should use descriptive terms that are easily understood, such as, "braking action poor the first/last half of the runway," together with the particular type of aircraft.

When the pilot ahead of you calls it "poor" so you can get in, is he really doing you a favor?

I got sucked into this once and wound up using crab angle and power, to maintain runway centerline. The runway was more or less glare ice and there was a 15 knot crosswind. I bet I was holding a 40 degree crab on the runway, just stay centered.

Pilot Yip,,, You started this thread to find out info because YOU don't know jack about what happened. You want the truth about other carriers, but you won't tell the truth about your own.

**EDITED out of respect for pilotag**

only posted what is in the paper

As seen in the Toledo Blade "LIMA, OH - A cargo airplane operated et ,etc, .......... reported by the Ohio Highway Patrol's Lima Post" It gave the names and home towns of the pilots and the damage to the airplane I elected not to put that in the post. Hey 731 I am only a messenger. I will say that USA Jet turned down the trip because of airport conditions. Same as we did the non-stop DRT-STL last April

Where did you guys get a braking action report at 4am? Seriously, was there a PIREP or something??? The FAA is calling this an incident, so it couldn't have been that bad.

Sorry, was just making a comment in general about braking action reports. Wasn't trying to start anything. Maybe later, my comment my be more relevent, maybe not. But it was not meant to deamean the pilots in that news article, nor was it to imply that I know details of this incident. (which I don't).

One question:

Did the pilots involved have degrees?

Im willing to bet they did.

Had they not wasted all that time in college they would have never slid off the end of the runway.

I've flown with the captain in the sim for my checkride and with the co pilot on numerous occasions into really bad weather. Both of the pilots are really sharp, well above standards. I think people like pilotyip should back off and wait and see what the cause of the accident really is.........

Reflections of Curtis LeMay

When C. Lemay took over SAC in 1948, he reviewed all of the SAC accident reports. He found that most of the time when there was an accident, the Wing Commander always said this guy was one of the sharpest pilots in the outfit. He wondered why it was always the sharp pilots that crashed. The pilot who were not rated as sharp were not crashing as often. How come. He found the sharp pilots had a confidence that their skill could over come any thing that went wrong, so they did not need checklists, co-pilot telling them where they were, etc. The not so sharp pilots, did not have the confidence that they could fly the box it came in, and wanted everything possible going for them, use the checklist, fly profiles speeds, use the crew to assist you. So LeMay made all the SAC pilots including the sharp ones, fly like the not so sharp ones and the accident rate went down. Pilots are only a small part in accidnets happening, managment and their exercise of operational control is the real difference in a reduced accident rate.

The info I got, (second hand)... No pirep for BAD rwy conditions. No sign of bad conditions in the previous five hours for the destination. Good wx at the time of landing. Hmmmmm how many pilots with this info given to them would not go?? I guess pilotyip wouldn't because he is super man.

Dispatcher Go Spurs?

The decision to go to or not to go to AOH that night was made by a licensed dispatcher in our flt following center. The flight crew was never involved in the decision to go to AOH or not, doesn't your dispatcher provide the same service for you?

Welcome 80for80

Great first post. There was alot of insight in that tricky post, we look forward to more of your exciting commentary. R U a college grad? Not that you need to be to be a pilot, but your composition skills have been obviously polished in some institute of higher learning, one of those degrees that advances your aviation career by opening doors, PM Falcon Capt he knows all about that stuff.

Pilotyip,
Looking back on some of your previous posts, you seem to bring a large amount of information into conversations that ussaully turns out to be incorrect and/or irrellevant. Speculation into a matter that you know nothing about tarnishes not only the person/persons you are talking about, but also hurts the credibility of yourself and makes the company you represent, USA Jet, look bad.

Both the captain and first officer that flew that trip are neither overconfident or smug when it comes to knowing their limitations or the limitations of the Falcon 20. I know this because I've flown with both guys for hundreds of hours over the past two years.

Think before you type PILOTYIP.

No. So what's your point? Things are better where you are? What a BIG suprise:rolleyes:

PilotYip!

Or should I say "John Madden," amazing how easy it is to ref from the sidelines! As a supernatural power and being as perfect as you are when your luck runs out and **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED** hits the fan don't be suprised!

Your jinxing yourself...one thing I will add and I think I speak not only for myself but for the others in this post and industry wide...if you were involved in an accident/incident even now after all your trash talk...none of us would second guess or demean you...and would hope that you made it out ok, and would wait to see the final report and learn from the errors and mistakes involved!

You should be thankful the cherry guys are ok (and Cherry might not be the best operation, but they have a helluva lot of good 'ole boys over there that will always have your back and operate to a very high level and regard for safety!) and that we can all learn from their situation when it has been FULLY investigated.

Don't be so assinine!!! Why don't you jump on board with your fellow aviatiors....sorry to tell you that USA Jet isn't the Pinnacle of this journey...and even at the top whats the point of being there if you can't help others follow your path???

Your comment about the GA (drt-Stl) run is complete and morbid BS, grow the F*** up.

One more point...I guess yall got outbid on both trips HUH?!?!?!?! And if this is the only part of this post you can respond to...you make my point very clear!!!

Hey Tex

Hey Tex, we did not even bid on those trips becaue we could not do them. So watch what you say, you do not have all the facts.

While some figure out whose daddy is bigger than your daddy, why dont we just take a second and be glad this was only an incident and that the pilots are ok.

I dont fly frieght any longer but flew it for years, and typically sound decisions, and competent actions are what keep a situation like this from being much worse.

Not meant to be flame bait, Im just glad that families will not be dealing with loss of life during the holidays.

UH....

Heres Pilotyips FIRST post....

Cherry Air slide a Falcon off the end of the runway Saturday at Lima, OH. Crew OK, airplane unknown

Please tell me how that was derogatory, insulting, insinuating or ill-informed?

HERE's 731's post.....

Pilot Yip,,, Why do you always start $^!&??? You run around and spread more crap that every one on this board combined. You started this thread to find out info because YOU don't know jack about what happened.....

(and on and on... you can scroll up to finish reading that if you want)

that post IS derogatory, insulting, insinuating AND ill-informed!

can you freakin' people go hit the heavy bag for a half an hour or so and take the gloves OFF before you come post here? All Pilotyip did was raise a topic... The point of this d@mn board is to illuminate and educate.

jeeeez.

Get a life Xfr8dog! If the post was ill informed, why didn't any one who knows, say that. Why are you, saying that? How would you know if that is ill informed?

I hope the FAA doesn't hear about that. I imagine they expect the PIC to have a little say in the dispatch decision. I suspect your Ops Specs might require a joint decision on the part of the dispatcher and the PIC.

I'm sorry, I really didn't intend to comment on an incident about which I know nothing related to an airport and a company I barely recognize, but the outrageousness of that comment overwhelmed me.

I have just been informed via PM that my outrage was misdirected. Based on the information I now have at my disposal, allow me to rephrase pilotyip's comment:

What pilotyip meant to say
The customer called my company's sales department, who in turned called my company's dispatchers. They took a look at the weather and decided it was in the company's best interest to NOT sell a flight to that particular airport at that particular time. The decision to NOT go to AOH that night was made by a licensed dispatcher in our flt following center. My company's flight crews were never involved in the decision to NOT go to AOH, and I'm sure glad they didn't put me on the spot. Isn't it funny that somebody else tried to go and screwed up?
Apparently, my outrage should be at the attitude of someone who seems to delight in the misfortune of a crew that DID elect to go to that airport at that time and were subsequently involved in an unfortunate incident.
