I was looking at the JetBlue website and I saw no mention of the 1000 PIC turbine requirement. What am I missing here?

https://www.jetblue.com/workhere/JobDetail.asp?jobId=15

It also seems that they have specified their definition of PIC time, which is another change.

Does anyone know what's going on here?

Thanks

Sorry to hear it doesn't help you out. But the good news is that it helps me out!

Interviewed at JB in 8/99 before they started ops. Background check went well, but not hired due to the fact that they wanted their first set of pilots to be Captains right away and I didn't have the turbine PIC they wanted. They called me back in 6/00 to see if I was still interested. I turned them down since I had just completed training at UA.

Geez, I wish I had a crystal ball back then!

Cheers!

They may be slammed with a lot of furloughed F/Os, but as I don't know what that's worth. I just had a friend who was furloughed from Delta in November get a rejection letter. He had an A320 type rating with about 1000 hours PIC in the BUS all from a scheduled charter airline. Saying that, I had another friend who flew 727 for a company who was just offered a job with them. Go figure.

It's easy to figure. Your qualifications do one thing for you. If competitive, they get you selected for an interview. From there, it all depends on what you do with that interview. Are you prepared, do you have good "stories", do you project the image that they believe fits with their culture, etc.?

Obviously, both the A320 pilot and 727 pilot had the qualifications necessary to be selected for an interview, but the 727 pilot must have done a better job of selling himself.

Well, I also think there were some politics involved too. My buddy flew a Corporate 727, the other one had just been furloughed for Delta. Since Jet Blue only requires a two year stay and doesn't require someone to resign their senority number may have had something to do with it. I imagine that the powers that be at JB felt that it's "economically" better to put the money into training someone who will be around longer, I don't know. I've never understood how airlines hire. I was hired at 19 by PBA and the only reason why I even applied there was to see what would happen.
Anyway, take it easy and fly safe!!

bzzzt...wrong answer.... If Jet Blue had the attitude that "...lets not waste money are resources...." They would not have even brought the Delta candidate to the interview. After that person walked in the door, it's all about 'selling yourself' as Trainerjet correctly pointed out.

330 Driver,
You're right they do not list 1000 PIC under Minimum Requirements. However, when I pulled up their Application, the Turbine PIC Total block has "Minimum of 1000 hours required" in parenthesis.

Looks like I still need 150 more before applying.

Good Luck!

For those that went trough training recently, what is the two year agreement with jetblue? I've heard it was a no-compete clause if a person decided to leave JB. Also heard it was a two year commitment.

That's correct, a two year non-compete-- which still allows the folks to retain their seniority numbers in the event of a recall. However, this still hasn't slowed the hiring of qualified applicants from the majors. One class of 24 had 14 former US Airways pilots with previous A-320 experience. We've also had a couple of NWA and United folks as well. My feeling is, by the time their two years are up, it's going to be difficult to move back-- because by then they will all be Captains at JBLU. Current upgrade takes about 8 months.

Blue Bayou-

What's the story with the 1,000hr turbine PIC requirement? Is it still a requirement? Was that just an error on the jetBlue website?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Cheers!

Jet Blue

I hear a lot of US AIRWAYS guys are in Jet Blue classes. I would bet you though that they were some of the first to be fuloughed, like in 2001 and early 2002. Besides, I doubt US AIRWAYS will be around much longer so they wouldn't have anyone to go back to in two years anyway. I do have a friend who is a Jet Blue from NWA, but she was furloughed in December of 2001. It would be interesting to know when these people's furlough dates are. I am sure that has a lot to do with it.
I agree, that it will be hard for some to return to whereever they came from. However, by the time some of these get recalled by UAL or NWA they won't be far from captiain there either probably. I'm sure experience has a lot to do with it, but I am also postive that when they were furloughed and by who.
Take it easy!

Sleddrvr

Well, I too am one of those furloughed Us Air pilots who is now at JB.

Of course the obvious is all of us who were new hires went to JB immediately. I was furloughed 4 Jan 2002 (but I was on the last end of the new hires being furloughed). Most were Nov, Dec 2001.

Now we're seeing the 13-14 year furloughees in the Aug, Sep classes. One of my former A-320 sim instructors just interviewed with us and he's going to be furloughed Jan 2003 with almost 15 years with US Air.

Happy Landings,

For what its worth...

I heard that some guys from the Feb 2002 class at JetBlue are now doing Captain IOE. For those of you considering giving up a seniority number while on furlough to give JB a shot...well..take it for what its worth. How much is the that United A fund really worth right now? I say that not mocking....but what happens to all those retirement benefits when a company goes Chapt 11, or worse yet...Chapter 7? UAL 78...any insights?

You know, when I had to choose between JB and FDX, it was a very tough decision (Zulu had similar dilemma). Seems the least JetBlue could have done to make me feel better about my choice was fold, or suddenly start treating their employees like dirt, or slash the pay, or...well...you get the idea. However, they had other plans...;)

Instead...they grow, make money, make more fans in both the general public and the media. I have seen some say "when this economy bounces back, the public will return to the majors..." My question is why? When you can get a great seat at a great price, friendly, helpful service, and then watch 24 channels for a few hours, what is the rush back to the less comforatable, more expensive seats without the entertainment?

JeffG, Speedbird, Eagleflip, Shaggy, Cool, MigKiller (Malibu)...you guys have to be having a blast. Hope all you guys are getting what you want from your career--the public sure seems to be eating it up. Keep the news flowing and keeping helping out these other bros who want to join the team...lots of pain out there at the moment.

And when its time to send your Christmas packages..well...you know who to choose...:D

Albie,

It's gone even more junior fo the upgrades. My class Mar 2002, had about 4 guys selected for the Dec upgrade. I missed it by 6 people.

However, Jan went very senior again.

Happy landings,

I am sure someone has already pointed this out, I will ask again, however. What is the payscale at JB? I can see the first year pay, but what is current captain pay schedule and how are increases being set?

Thanks
