I have heard some rumors that CX may be/or has changed the interview process to 1 interview in HKG only. Has anyone else heard or seen this as well?

Rumor is correct.
 
Other that being short, any reasoning behind it? Even though it's 1 interview, has the content changed at all?
 
WOW....I really don't know what to say to that.

Thanks for the info Capt. I guess my chances are a little better to see all of what CX has to offer firsthand.

I was told that "I must think pretty highly of myself" for accidentally grabbing a red cup at 0200 AM and just getting up from the bunk.

What is the history behind the red and green cup?
 
Just curious what the latest is over there. I began to fill out the online app yesterday, I haven't even finished it yet, and already today (by 9:30am est) I have received a message from Cathay pilot recruiting. I applied a few years ago and it took six months to hear back from them. Now I don't even get the chance to finish applying before I get a call. Granted my experience and quilifications have grown, but wow.

Guys over there still enjoy it?
 
The re usable cups seem to be a good idea....using re usable plastic cups instead of one use polystyrene ones. The colors were just to distinguish between the two when you sent the cabin crew with your cups for refills. They are color coded red and green for Captain and F/O (think nav lights, left red and right green). There are also blue and yellow cups, these are intended for the relief pilot (blue) and SO (yellow). What started as a good idea, evolved into a sense of entitlement for some pricks that have nothing else in life except being a Cathay COMMANDER!!!

I checked it out and do see a bunch of complaining, The problem is that it seems it is a few people doing most of the complaining, and the majority of them are Brits or Aussies. I am kind of looking for an American perspective (and U.S. based as well) as our experiences and expectations have been destroyed in the post 9/11 world. Wondering what someone who has spent a few years flying for a U.S. regional would say about Cathay, and that seems to be hard to find on pprune.

Well Med, it's way better than eva. At O8, if you are not type rated, you have to pay for your rating. But not at Cathay.

You've just offended some of the relief guys mate. They get the YELLOW cup and the poor peon S/O get the 'baby blue'.

Airlinepilotpay.com says that CX pays per diem in local currency upon check-in, what is the amount in US dollars?

The retirement fund can be taken in 15.5% in extra pay (correct me if Im wrong here), if one is to chose this option, does CX provide some sort of 401K sponsorship (not 401k matching, just pre-tax deposits) for tax shelter? Or do most guys just roll the after tax into a ROTH IRA and the rest in a bunch of other stuff? Thanks

First off, be careful looking at the pay on Airlinepilotpay. Im not sure what PAX pay that displays. I can tell you it is not the USAB "B" scale that many of us are employed under (prior to joining jan08). It looks like the new conditions of service (cos08=pay cut) but im not sure. Freighter pay has been increased by a whopping 3% from the figures shown.

"Allowances" are given in cash upon check in to the Hotel. It is in local currency based on the costs of meals, laundry etc. in the hotel. For instance, a 48HR stay in NYC is roughly 240.00 USD. You won't see 240 USD for 48 hours in JoBurg.

You are also paid "duty pay" which is based on the flight hours flown up to 84 hours. Right now it works out around another 400-600 USD a month depending on what you did.

Your question regarding the 15.5% payout totally depends on what job you are interviewing for. For S/O's you have only 2 P-Fund options to invest in and no cash option. If you are a DEFO, then the cash option is available. Most guys take the cash and do their own investing.
