At least he didn't croak, now that would be a PITA trying to get him to sign the temp cert before you report the problem

On my initial CFI ride, the examiner fell asleep on the way out to the practice area. I remember explaining something I was doing and when I looked over he was practically snoring. I passed.

Man, that's brutal and outright cruel!

Regardless if you know them or not, as a CFI, you always double-check the regs anyways, before you send your student up for a checkride, solo, etc. to make sure you got everything covered.
