Hi

I know there is a couple of guys knowledgable about Cathay.

I understand that if one gets hired as a SO, he or she will be Hong kong-bound for about 3-6 years.
after 18 months the SO will get a shot at a JFO.
From this point, Can a JFO bid for a Base outside of the USA or do they have to wait to become a FO?

And what are the chances to get a base outside of HK?
thanks

FROM what i get
HK about 3 yrs SO till FO most new SO are going to the 777 this summer
Then if you like you can hold a home base if you choose
also after a year and you decide that HK isnt for you can Bid Freighter if you meet min experience prior to joining after you go through a CP interview.

Just one point; you can bid for any of the other bases outside of the USA but you have to have the right to legally work and live there. CX won't do any of that on your behalf.

"Handling The Big Jets" & "Beyond Lion Rock" are both for sale. PM me an offer. Must read gouge for he Cathay wannabees.

Will Cathay hire someone for an SO position if most of their time is as an FO on a jet such as one would get working for a regional? I would have some PIC time from instructing 500-600 hours and then the rest Jet FO or do i need jet PIC?

yes they will

Yes. To be competitive for an S/O interview your are looking at close to 3000+ total time and quite a bit of Turbine/Jet.

Saviboy,

Once you are employed by CX as an S/O you cannot actually take a freighter course until 1 year after your first initial line check. In order to be eligible the company will review your previous experience (forget what it is) and current sim performances.

Hey ERJ...I am sorry I missed your calls. I have been in YYJ on the farm sorting things out for the Summer. Back into HKG tomorrow AM. So...how did it go? PM me!

Maybe this is what the contract says, but a guy (DESO) who just left CX told me that they don't allow this anymore. He said you need to have completed your second line check before you're deemed eligible for a freighter course (plus have DEFO experience on DOJ, passed sim, etc). Any truth to this?

One year after your initial line check you would have another annual line check, so that makes sense. I also can't think of anyone getting hired as an SO that didn't have some FO experience.

SO's also do sims every month so i'm sure they are being evaluated all the time.

I'm not an SO so I may be wrong on all of these, but it seems to be pretty simmple.

To be more accurate, you can take your upgrade interview anytime after your first initial line check, but you're not allowed start your F/O course until you have completed your first ANNUAL line check. So yes, 1 intial, 1 annual.

Thanks for the clarification guys. Makes sense now. The guy sounded like you have to pass 2 annual line checks before making the switch. I'm joining as a DESO and just wondering what my options are when it's time to upgrade.

No No No, it's should be: HE'S back!!! Providing information about stuff he is totally unfamiliar with, as always.

The next guy to claim that he is "just trying to help"..I am gonna puke!!!

No. Your competitive with those hours.

Best of luck

Has CX been making any exceptions to the DEFO mins? I have about 850 121 PIC in the Dash 8, and about 600 in the 737 (current job). of which half is in the 737NG with 180ETOPs. I sorta neither here nor there. what daya think? apply anyways?

Competitive Hours?

What are the competitive hours for a FO position? I currently have about 3000TT 1000 hours PIC jet and also about 1000 hours 121.

There have been exceptions but the "Majority" interviewed for F/O positions have;

4000+ TT
1000+ PIC (Jet)

Having said that, there have been guys with NO PIC time but 8-9000TT (Furloughees) and also guys with less than 4000TT but are Military. Many of our S/O's also have quite a bit of time. They also seem to favor the aircraft size (prop/jet) in which your time is in. I know a guy with a 1K pic time in a 1900 who is an S/O and another guy who has the same TT but his PIC was in an RJ and was offered an F/O interview.
