Statement on Aircraft Incident

Atlanta, September 03, 2010

A UPS cargo plane has been involved in an accident in Dubai.

At approximately 12 p.m. EST, UPS Flight 6 from Dubai, UAE, to Cologne, DE, a 747-400 with two crewmembers on board crashed on takeoff. At this time, we have not confirmed any casualties.

"Safety is a key priority for UPS," said Airline & International Operations Manager Bob Lekites. "This incident is very unfortunate and we will do everything we can to find the cause," said Lekites. "Our thoughts go out to the crewmembers involved in the incident and their families."

"We will also release more information as it becomes available, in cooperation with government authorities. We will not speculate about the cause. Until then, we ask for your patience in this difficult time."

A media information hotline has also been established. The hotline number is (502) 329-0110. A recorded message will provide any updates; the system will also allow reporters to leave messages if they would like a return call. Regular updates will be provided throughout the day.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — A UPS 747 cargo plane with two crew aboard crashed in Dubai shortly after takeoff Friday, the company said.
The crash set some cars on fire and killed several people, Al Arabiya television reported.
Ambulances were rushing to the area, located near a residential district, the station added.
The dead were thought to be the cargo plane's crew, Al Arabiya said.
A large section of the plane was visibly on fire before it crashed.
"UPS Flight 6 from Dubai, UAE, to Cologne, DE, a 747-400 with two crewmembers on board crashed on takeoff," the Atlanta-based company said in a statement.
Al Arabiya said the plane crashed on a highway, but the UAE's news agency said it was an unpopulated area.
In October 2009, a Sudanese Boeing 707 cargo plane crashed in the desert outside Dubai, killing six crew members.
UAE regulators have banned the plane's Sudanese owner from operating in the country.
This report will be updated as information becomes available.

Crashed in a place called Arabian Ranches, a housing development that went bust and is uninhabited. It's several miles from the airport but close to densely populated areas. It's possible these guys steered a mortally wounded bird to a safe area. Might have done something truly heroic, time will tell.
Local news has yet to report fate of the crew but did report a large fireball.

Hoping for positive news.

The Pig.
