Any 121 companies hiring Captains off the street besides Colgan Air?

Just a C8'r trying to find a place to land.

Cheers!

At Pinnacle we are hiring street captains in MSP and DTW. Even if you come in as a FO you could be in upgrade on the next bid. Now that is true right now but things could change as some of the 500 First Officers get qualified to upgrade. I also understand that HR is working real hard on scooping up ACA/Indy guys so the competetion might be high for a while.

Am I the only person who has their posts disappear into neverland after spending 10 minutes to write something? :(

Ditto the ACA thing, our check airman are VERY impressed with the quality of people we are getting from ACA and have let our HR people know about it so expect a lot of hiring from those guys to continue as long as they come in with good attitudes.

14 more Street Captains on the June vacancy final, came out today. I was expecting 20-25 because of the SNAFUs the last two months but it didn't happen. Additionally, a lot of the slots were taken by people who are just now finishing class so they're not labeled NHT; those guys will fly the line for 30-45 days as an F/O then come back for upgrade class.

45 Days to upgrade - not too shabby. Congrats guys & gals! :)

Not expecting another vacancy until late March / early April for about the same number of people, then nothing for a couple of months, then one last "adjustment bid" to get everyone where they need them and adjust staffing levels if need be, then hiring only for attrition (5 people per month approx).

Last chance!

I'm not sure I would be too anxious to jump off the street into a 121 Ca position. Have you ever heard of seniority? Get in line like everyone else. If you doubt me then just ask some of the Freedom guys how they like flying with the Mesa pilots they screwed and jumped over to fly the CRJ-7 and 900.

if they don't have f/o's that meet the minimum requirments for upgrade (or fo's that have the time but choose not to) then what would you propose?

Let me assure you it looks good to future employers.

Let me assure you that a street captain will not have better seniority than someone who is already there.

Trust me on this.

We have many of the street captains at NJA and no one cares. People couldnt or didnt want to upgrade so it was necessary. Besides, its not like your going to get a higher seniority number because of it. If two guys get hired at the same time and one is an f/o and the other a captain the captain isnt going to get a seniority number several hundred numbers higher.

Future companies couldnt give a crap if you came in off the street into a captains position.

Question

Is there anyway, contractually speaking, that a street capt could be displaced to FO if there are now upgrade qualified FOs? Im curious, we dont have that situation here at Skyway.

SO what is the quality of life at Pinnacle? I have heard some bad things. Is the quick upgrade gonna end pretty soon? My estimate would be if you are not a street captain by April you will be eating bread and water for quite some time. what are the thoughts on that? I only ask this cause I am ready to be out of QX, but I cant take an $11-$12/hour pay cut to go to Pinnacle. I think it would be fun to head there but any ideas of upgrade times when the big captain push ends?

Displacements typicaly go by seniority and since an off the street captain is junior, in comparison, they could go first if necessary. They wont however displace a captain to f/o so another f/o can upgrade to captain.

Thanks

Thanks, that is what I thought. That is how Skyway is setup but I was curious if that was universal.

Thanks everyone for the replies. And, no I'm not trying to jump in front of people... senority is senority! I would still be the low man. But many companies practice this policy for precisely the reason Humty72 described. I'm just trying to keep my PIC turbine growing.

Cheers!

Oh, I don't know, lower the minimums maybe? Pinnacle's insurance doesn't require 3000 TT, it's the Chief Pilot's arbitrary rule. If we lowered it by just a couple hundred hours then we could fill all upgrade slots with current FOs that have been with the company for some time now. That's a much better solution as far as I'm concerned. Don't get me wrong, I don't have anything against the street captains we have now, and I won't have anything against the street captains that are coming in. But I do think that management needs to rethink this policy. Wouldn't it be better to lower the minimums just slightly so that we can have people upgrading that are already familiar with our operation and equipment? We have people being offered Captain slots right out of initial that have zero jet time from what I've heard. That's not a good idea.

Shamrock,

Nice Avatar. Only Varitek is a Wuss as he made sure he kept the mask and helmet on so Arod wouldn't make hamburger meat out of his face. :D

A prospective "street captain" should be a lot more worried about passing that checkride than what others will think of them. A street captain checkride is about the hardest training anyone can do because of the volume of material to learn.

After that, plan on getting used to reserve. That's where seniority bites you. FOs will upgrade in front of you and bump you back for the next 5 years.

Nobody cares in regards to "future employers". This isn't PFT, scabbing or anything like that, so don't even go there.

In some cases, being on reserve isn't even an issue.

I was a street captain at Colgan many years ago and never did a day of reserve.

In addition, the checkride wasn't all that difficult, but that was likely because I already had time in type.

However, I agree that what ifly4food wrote applies to a place like Pinnacle.

English, I dig your Avatar. Where is that?

Aitutaki Lagoon Resort in the Cook Islands. That's the view from one of the overwater bungalows.

50% discount for airline employees. Better than Tahiti, IMHO.

Sweet. Wish I was there. You got a link or website for the resort?

Are we talking about the A-Rod that plays for the Yankees? That A-Rod? Have you seen how the guy runs? Like a big girl. He dropped the only chance he would have had against Varitek when he left the batters box. And did you see the way he swatted the ball away from Arroyo in the ALCS? Reminded me of how my sister used to flail around when she saw a bug.:p

No, I'll keep my money on Varitek, mask or no mask.

Boog-
Poor Yankees fans. Maybe I could refresh your memory as to what happend to the Skankees this past October with the worst upsets in history in one of the biggest rivalries in sports and not to mention that stellar performance against the Indians earlier in the season. I'll bet that pretty soon the National Inquirer will finally expose the homosexual relationship that everyone knows is taking place between Jeter and Arod

All that story will do is prove how talented A-Rod really is.

First Shortstop, then 3rd Base, and now we find out he plays Catcher too!;)
