Isnt regulation a form of big government? Government intruding in the free market. The thought is that it would raise ticket prices and therefore raise salaries. Why wouldnt managements just keep the extra money? It is funny how people cry socialism if government oversteps their bounds and it hurts or doesnt benefit people but if it helps them then it is ok. Ah the hypocrisy of our democracy. There is a difference between rich and wealth. A lot of people are rich but a lot less that have wealth. A rich person can go broke but wealth stays for generations and that is where the true power of what we call democracy dwells. If you are Republican or Democrat or identify with either side then you have put the blinders on. Do we get underpaid or did generations ago get overpaid? Who is to say? A pilot will tell you the former but everyone else does not care or picks the latter. There is no one area to place blame. It is the progression of a society that puts the highest value on materials that can be obtained and the means that obtains them.
