Is this really a deal breaker for you?

I didn't say it was. If you'll read my most more closely, there are several points that have yet to be resolved.

I'm going to make my decision on the overall merits of how the transition will be administered.

Thank you making that clear. I'll try harder.

Would you come over if you carried nothing from XJT? Like you were an off-the-street hire?

I was surprised at how many of the 113 passed.

Let me ask you something. Since you're not on the CAL or XJT seniority lists, what difference could it possibly make to you?

I am a CAL furloughee. My recall was in March but I've bypassed for now.

Personally I'd love to see block seniority for the PIGs, then a deferral to remain at XJT. Longeivity wouldn't start until our CAL class to keep it as a zero-cost item.

That might be a tough sell. All I've heard is the PIGs will be treaded like off-the-street new hires and mixed with actual new hires. When I was hired in 2001, there were Continental Express guys in with new hires (3 to 1). It sounds like you don't think thats the way it should be now.

That's what ALPA's asking for, is block seniority.

We all interviewed as a block in 2002. Doesn't it seem that when you interview and are hired, your class date (i.e. seniority) is set accordingly?

The point is that we were "hired" in 2002; why should we be diluted with guys hired in 2005?

Thanks. I see your point but most companies assign senority numbers on the first day of class, not when you interview or when you get your, "Congrats! Your hired!" letter.

I hope it works out for you. I have lost some faith recently (bet you can guess why) but I still think Continental is one of the best airlines to work for right now.

IMO a lot of the XJT pilots got a raw deal when CAL sold off ExpressJet. But, if I were at XJT and I was offered a job at CAL with a '05 hire date, I'd take it as if I were hired from Eagle, TSA, etc. There were quite a few CAL guys that took the flowback and returned with no credit on the CAL side either. I was hoping for longevity in the TA and didn't get that either. My hire date is April 2001. I will go back in September 2005 as if I were in my first year for pay, retirement, pass travel, etc. CALALPA didn't consider longevity an important issue so it went away. Don't hold your breath on your issues either. Until there is a change within the ranks of that union, they will only represent a small group of pilots. You and I aren't in that group.

Man, I heard that.

Best of luck to you. Hope I see you at CAL soon.

Unfortunately, in CAL's eyes, you weren't "hired" in 2002 - you passed their "pre-screening process."

While it is a tough sell, ATRedneck is correct. It should be that way. Were you aware that those pilots who passed the "pre-screening process" were required by the letter they received from CAL management to remain employed at XJT until such a time that they were brought over to CAL? So here is a guy who was "hired" 2 1/2 years ago and then forced to stay at XJT until his ratio'd number pops up (all the while watching a bunch of off-the-street new hires slide in ahead of him). Does that seem right/fair/just/etc? I don't think so. But of course, we all know that life isn't fair and the airline industry certainly isn't either.

Time will tell to see how this all plays out but I truly hope that CAL management does the right thing here...and honors those commitment letters that they made 2 1/2 years ago in seniority order for their first 236 new hire slots after the "81 group."

Leave it up to Neal to throw logic and facts into a perfectly good discussion...,
(I've been gone and didn't see your response.)

No I didn't know that was the way things worked out. Now I can see why this has become such an issue. Dignity and Respect, right? Why am I not surprised?

Hotwing,
Sorry for the drift. Looks like you flew for the airlines. Did you enjoy it? I agree with the others, CAL is one of the best for PAX.

What will be icing on the cake is when a furloughed ATA pilot that was junior to you at Express gets put in front of you at Continental. While you sayed and worked for this company.

The joys of working at an airline!!! I can't believe that any one would want to stick around beyond 60.

Holy Cow,

Guess this Cal hire thing will take some pressure off the folks who really want to fly for Fed-Ex or UPS now that every swingin dik wants to be a major pax pilot again.
