A TRANSATLANTIC flight with 162 passengers on board had to abort two attempts at landing at Dublin Airport yesterday after earlier being forced to return to the airfield with technical problems.
Continental Airlines flight CO-127 from Dublin to Newark in New Jersey (US) was due to depart at 9.55am but didn't leave until 10.18am.
After unsuccessful attempts to resolve technical problems which developed en route, the crew turned back to Dublin almost two hours after taking off -- but their woes did not end there.
On its return to Dublin, the flight had to abort two separate attempts at landing before finally touching down safely a further 40 minutes later.
The pilot initially reported a "maintenance problem" as the reason for the unscheduled return to the airport. However, it later transpired that the problem related to pressurisation.
The Boeing 757-200 jet was climbing through 25,000 feet after leaving Dublin when the crew requested permission to turn back.
In a statement, a Continental spokesperson said last night: "Flight 127 returned to Dublin because of an inoperative auxiliary power unit and an engine bleed-air problem. No emergency was declared.
"The aircraft landed safely and the customers disembarked. The aircraft is being repaired and is scheduled to depart Dublin at 11.00am (Friday) as flight CO1970. Some customers are being rebooked on alternative flights."

Must be a slow news day. There were VERY high winds that day in Ireland and they were above the crosswind landing limitations of the airplane. Crew did what they had to do and didn't force the issue.

Too bad the media can only see the negative side of things. All journalists who report on the aviation industry need to be lined up against a wall and shot and or be trained as a pilot.
