The reason the routing is IAH-DTW-LHR is because BA is not able to fly IAH-LHR non-stop. DTW is an approved LHR destination per the Bermuda 2 agreement. In essance, BA is allowing IAH customers to access LHR via DTW instead of limting them to LGW. Right now, BA does offer a nonstop from IAH to London which goes to LGW. Once the openskies agreement is in effect, the Bermuda 2 agreement will no longer be in effect and BA will be able to operate from LHR to any airport they wish to.

Cathay (HKG Airline) operates JFK-YVR. Is that OK, or should that too be stopped?

They've been operating that schedule for awhile. Don't think its a fuel stop.Welcome to the Open Skies agreement. Pretty soon you will see Air France operate LA to London.

This has nothing to do with Open Skies. Other posts saying that this is okay and long as here is no local traffic means that BA can pick up pax @ IAH and pick up more pax in DTW and take them to England. This does not violate cabotage.

Is Vancouver a US city now? I think any airline can go between countries and carry pax. EVA was flying a 744 from Taipei to SEA, and then onto EWR. They are now going to introduce a 777-300ER nonstop to EWR. But, this has been happening for awhile, and no, they do not carry US pax between SEA and EWR.

Bye Bye--General Lee

Not sure if they still do, but Lufthansa used to fly from DFW to IAH and then on to Germany.

Man what a waste. LHR is only 10 or 15 minutes more convienient than LGW despite the hype. You lose far, far more time than that trying to turn a heavy in a stop over city. I guess perception is reality for those customers.

Its probably more about the connections one can make at Heathrow vs. Gatwick
