That was a cool video of that plane being dismantled. Reminds me of science videos showing an animal or large insect slowing devouring another creature till it's gone.

Is that the airplane that sat at the PHX airport? It was parked on the north side of the airport. I used to wonder if they kept it airworthy.

The 720 that "sat" on the north side of PHX was the test-mule for Honeywell's engine program. It had an extra engine mount on the upper right hand side of the forward portion of the fuselage.

If you look you'll see there's now a 757 sitting right were the 720 used to sit, "Out with the old in with the not so old."

I don't think airplane destroyed in the video was the ex-Honeywell jet. The airplane in the video had a dark green colored cheat-line on the side while the Honeywell jet had a red cheat-line. Also, there didn't appear to be any sign of the engine test mounting modification on the forward right hand side of the fuselage.

This made me want to throw up. 720s are pretty rare and it's a shame this one couldn't have been saved to make a bar or put on a pedestal outside some little airport. Chopping it up to make a Red Bull can seems like a terrible waste.

I stand corrected: It turns out the aircraft in the video was the Honeywell test-bed aircraft after all.

I googled it's registration number "N720H" and found that it was destroyed. It was billed as "the last flying Boeing 720 in the United States."

It was built in 1961, pretty old and probably a maintenance-hour vs. flying-hour hog (like the KC-135 is for the Air Force).

Thanks guys for the links. Both seem to work now. Must have been a "spurious signal" in the network before.

I think it's very sad to see airplanes torn apart like this. It seems like a very inappropriate way to get rid of these machines. It's good to know that many of the materials can be recycled and may be flying again very soon.

You have got to be s&^&ing me! What a very sad ending for such a historic aircraft. You would think that a museum somewhere would have made room for her. Unbelievable...

I think Pratt's still got their maroon and cream colored 720 up at Plattsburgh.

Yes it is unbelievable it did not go to a museum. We are now down to less than a handful of 720's that are even in existence worldwide. Now I believe the only flyable 720 on this continent is the Pratt bird.
