In addition to the rocking parade party, Virgin Group Founder Sir Richard Branson is asking Pride-goers to submit their ultimate Beauty Queen Acceptance speech – with the best entry scoring the seat of honor onboard our Pride float on June 27. The airline will welcome onboard those traveling from all over the country who will take part in the festivities. On another note VA has a -14.7% margin. That is just horrid. I am sure Q2 will not be as bad but going into fall we will see a repeat of Q1. How long will VA dump seats at a loss to gain market share? Will the revenue stay strong when they are forced to raise fares by over $100 just to break even?

Branson has the bucks but how long does this charade go on? 50? 75 jets?

My income still doesn't cover my expenses but I paid my electric bill with my credit card and deposited cash into my savings and I still have $14,300 credit limit on my Capital One card.

According to Cush, his costs are lower than United's primarily because of labor. Nice. If airlines like Virgin America become the "new" LCC's, looks like we'll be revisiting any gains we union pilots make this decade.

And just because their cash balance went up doesn't mean they were cash flow positive. It is more likely they just borrowed from a credit line and put the proceeds into cash. At least a few airlines, including mine, did the same during the last credit crunch, fearing that lines of credit made available to them previously would be withdrawn in the crisis. Had they been cash flow positive, I can't imagine that they wouldn't have loudly proclaimed that accomplishment.

However I have been around long enough to realize that slogging around at a regional hoping for a job with a legacy carrier full of bitter, angry old farts who keep selling out junior pilots and giving up scope, is anything but "smart". I agree with you. But I am a business man too. My main objective is to create profits FIRST!

If that is not being done, I give it ONE or TWO QUARTERs and I shut her down.

Please dont think Branson is your PAL. He is a capitalist, if VA is a thorn on his side, he will get rid of it..

Now, I am an employee also. With that in mind, please dont be blinded with aircraft orders, quick upgrades and HOT FLIGHT Attendants. I suggest you have a backup plan, and secure the BEST possible workrules, pay and contract you can.
