When GITMO used to be a cert, we would take a 2-night trip:

Day1: Colorado Springs direct Chennault. Cajun food for $1, plus sweet tea and all you can eat Klondike bars. Chennault direct Key West NAS. I think we stayed at Trombeau Point (or something like that). It was a 10-min taxi to Duval street. Just be wary with what type of taxi you get into. Myself and 3 other crew dawgs were in a cab when the cab driver made a short detour to deal crack...during the day. Crazy! Anywho, after quite a few drinks at Irish Kevin's, be sure to stop by one of the many strip joints. We visited one that was on the 2nd floor across the street from Irish Kevin's and the talent was pretty good. They even had a midget dance, which was a little awkward...you don't want to be rude and look away, however you don't want to seem like a weirdo that is into midget strippers/porn. Good time had by all.

Day2: After flying down to Gitmo, we'd head direct to MacDill (Tampa). TA there was sort of a pain in the ass. We all got our non-A slips and stayed at this joint right on the Bay...can't remember the name. Be sure and check out Mons Venus when you're there. You have to hit up Cheetahs in Vegas in order to find better looking girls...hand down.

Day3: Limp home to Colorado Springs.

...those were the days!!!

Chennault is the $hit! Was there this last friday on XC...amazing food and still one dollar..the shrimp and freezer full of icecream was the best

Best gas and go in the west is in Grand Junction, CO. Call Doug Thompson at West Star aviation. Only thing he'll ask for, other than your gov fuel card, is what kind of pizza you want. Something about the profit motive that results in outstanding and friendly service rather than your usual disgruntled Transient Line guys at a military base.

The town itself is fantastic, too. Great restaurants and pubs, and a small college there to boot. With no military in town, telling the local talent you fly jets for Uncle Sam actually gets you somewhere...

Showing my age here, but NAS South Weymouth outside of Boston was a GREAT place to stop. Boston, not a big college town...

North Island is tough to beat. Who doesn't like San Diego? Walk down Coronado to McP's for some great pub grup and a Guiness (or 6).

Best airshow ever was flying into Hillsboro, OR. Treated like a rock star - an unusual occurance for a Prowler guy. All of Portland at your service as a military guy during the Rose Festival.

The ladies at the FBO in Ft Smith, ARK were pretty top notch. Just a gas and go, but well worth the stop.

Stay away from Minot, ND...

I hafta agree, the world's best FBO is Ellington. They have a fully stocked (snacks galore AND beer) bar for Mil Crews, and if you don't stay there they will put you up at the Hobby Hilton for mil rate. Also a hot lunch or pizza for buying the gas........... they USED to meet you at the plane with the talent du jour in a golf cart with a full cooler on the back, free t-shirts, and one of the best free airplane calendars around, free rental cars, and a nightly free BBQ, but the bean counters made them stop. Those WERE the days, alright.
NQX was a great stop..... FantasyFest week is an odd time to be there, but still lots of fun. Check out the parade (sometime around Halloween, I think).
Have fun!
