I got my Stealth round about 2000 and was still going strong this year. No rips, bent frames, or failing zips yet. All original. Now that's not to say it its in rough shape cosmetically.

Now I have had friends who bought the same bag just within the last few years, under the same conditions and they mirror what captainzero1 and xjhawk said... all zips broken, tearing fabric, and bent frames.

Did ownership change over the years perhaps or is quality just not as good as it used to be??

Just my 2 Pence!!

I have a 26" LW stealth I inherited from a friend of mine after he passed. It's OLD and it still holds up well. I have some cracking issues around where the handle brackets screw in, but that's about to get fixed...

As I said, I had a LuggageWorks, but retired it mainly due to its weight.

It also required multiple overhauls in its 8-year life (at my expense), including a replacement of the "indestructible" frame. When you realize that the cheap cast metal frame isn't as rock-solid as it "feels," you start looking for bags that are tough in the right places, and flexible where it matters. I have two years now on my Costco bag, and the only thing it needed was a drop of oil on one of the wheels about a year ago.

No bag is indestructible. The LW were fairly tough, but they had to be, because throwing them around is the only way the rampies can handle them without injury.

Luggage Works, make sure you take advantage of the free overhaul before your first three years are up. Sent mine in and they replaced everything that had a little bit of damage. Now going on 5+ years, still going strong.

I don't know, I've had the LW for 3 years and am not really happy with it. Heavy as hell, bent frame, screws falling out, busted zippers, replaced wheel bearings a few times...

I'm starting to think that it's not worth the weight and maybe there's something else that will be about the same in maintenance but lighter. Travelpro maybe? Anyone have the strongbag?

LW bag. If you need to send it in anytime you can take it to FedEx and they'll ship "as is" no wrap.

I do have the AeroCoast Cooler/Laptop bag. LOVE it!

My experience has been that a 22" expandable is best. It's a carry on, but you can always expand it, check it, and take more stuff home.

The problem is my old Travel pro died, and I hear the new ones are not near as durable.

Any truth to that?

What's a good 22" expandable replacement?

I've had my Luggage Works Stealth for over 15 years (8 years in the Saab cargo hold), replaced the bottom tray/wheels/stainless steel handle 3 years ago for $85. I replaced the screws that wiggle loose with #10x3/4 & #10x1/2 stainless steel pan heads with lock nuts=problem solved.
