Does anyone know what aircraft and bases the February class dates at US Airways are being assigned? Are all the new hires going East?

Aircraft and bases are assigned the first day of class based on seniority within that class.

Latest from cp was 50 new hires out west this year. 7 to 737 and 43 airbus. 5 A330s coming to Phx early 09

what should be known is- if you are a new hire and are placed out east- you do not have a right to bid out west until there is a joint contract. And vice-versa- if you get placed out west- you are considered a west pilot and cannot bid east until a joint contract is in place.

I know that the all of the America West poolies were placed East- and now get to watch new hires junior to them placed West, and East furloughees never hired by the West get to bid West- but they cannot. I would be frustrated by that.

Can anyone shed any light on how this works? Do i have it right?

The real question is why doesn't the 73 and AB earn more? And that's b/c it can't happen until a joint contract is in place.

The 190 pays more b/c it's the only new airplane- and so the only part that had to be negotiated since bk...

It's not just the first year though... FO pay starts at 41, then goes to $43 and ups only a dollar or two every year. So it's nice to start out high in the beginning- but it's just not high enough. It doesn't work out to be a livable wage in the long run... and there will be FO's stuck on it. Not to mention Capt's earn $21/hour less on the top end than their Republic counterparts flying the E175. I was shocked at that, but it's true.

The nic award is not that big of a deal. It was fair and just a bump in the road for those guys in the end. What's awful is a BK contract in place for an airline that's profitable. A joint contract and support for ALPA in the process is very important.

Respective contract would be used for the purpose of pay calculations, etc., however, depending on which side's former property we ended up laning on.

True- but there is not language in the transition agreement to allow new hires to bid back and forth between the east and west. This is a difference that hasn't been explained well. Check it out will you, and report back?

As a former poolie I was told that I would be placed in the east on the E190. I would not be able to hold PHX until there was a joint contract.

I live in Tempe, AZ. I said thanks but no thanks. If I had been able to bid west after a 1 year seat lock that would have been a different story.
