Most of you probably dont remember me, I had posted a few times inquiring about the Air Force and the ANG. Just a little update, I did join and left for basic training in march, got orders for tech school the day i graduated, and went to good ol' sheppard afb. and now, doing my seasoning training. I had an awesome time with all of it. I just want to thank everybody for the positive comments that were given to me, I think that this was the best decision I have ever made. Thanks guys!!!!!!!!!!!!

PS... If anyone has questions about AF or Guard just ask away, im fresh out of it so I pretty much remember everything there is to know

Is there an age limit to joining the ANG? (Just turned 25) I don't want to join until my training contract is up with my frax provider. Another 1+ to go.

What will you be working with now?

Thanks

Your young enough to join. I dont really know if there is a "cut off" age, I know that it's like 32 for pilots. My job is Aircrew Life Support, working with c-130's. My shop is awesome, the people are awesome, the officers are nice as can be. It's a really relaxed environment. I love it. I'm doing training and classes right now to get ready for deployment in October....already! I'm excited though.

Hey babydoll, where are you based at?

oh, you are a guard girl now. Thats cool. I would have definitely joined the guard if I knew enough about it a few years ago. I've seen a few Peoria birds come through here. Im in Good ole' Iraq now. Have fun on your deployment.

Oh for sure I will, where are you based out of?

Im a 130 crew chief out of Little Rock. I figured if you were AD and life support for herks, then you would have most likely been out of The Rock. Once you get there, they trap you and you never leave. Its good to get away. Thats why I kind of volunteered for a deployment. But they didn't tell me where I was going until I said yes. Well, Im in Iraq. See what you get for volunteering. But its ok for now. Do you live in Peoria, or is that where you wanted to start your life?

im in peoria now, i guess we're leaveing for the rock shortly to give you guys a 130 to go to the desert, but im in northern IL

Thats not a surprise that you are having to give us a plane. We have lost a lot of airplanes due to those wing cracks and we pretty much scrape any plane we can get. We even went as far as going to the boneyard at Davis Monthan, to bring back a plane from the dead, and fly it as a trainer here. So are you going to be flying in that plane to the desert, or are you just going to go with to deliver it to Little Rock?

I"m not going at all, I just had to replace all the life support equipment on it and make sure nothing is coming due anytime soon, so ya'll are safe lol

well thanks for making sure that we are all safe up there. The good thing about Little Rock planes is that they dont have to go on Oxygen bottles too much because the planes can't go that high. They cant hold pressure past a certain altitude because of the leaks in the planes since they are so old. go figure.

Crap.....I guess since the E-Models cant handle the load anymore, they will start sending the late H's!

Now here did I put my desert flight suit and boots.

Be careful over there Jetjock and welcome back Baby....

Yeah, we have H models, while I was gone they did a full E to H conversion, right now they are picking up our last one in Hawaii.

Thanks Jungle, I am already half done, so time is flying by. Yeah, I agree that the E's dont have much time left. I feel like all I do is put duct tape on these planes to temp fix it until it totally breaks. We are flying the hell out of what we have and only grounding it if it cant take off or land. its fun.

Hey babydoll,

I was wondering if you could hook me up with a lip light. Mine broke out here and we have nothing. Its great to use out here since we do everything in the dark. Plus I use it for flying at night back home. So if you could do that, i would be so appreciative. How do you like that smallpox shot they gave? fun huh?

Jet

omg that shot was HORRIBLE, and let me see if we have any lip lights, I knwo we have them on all teh helmuts, but I dont know where they keep them. I know where those finger lights are for teh NVG, but i'll check it out

Thanks babydoll, you are the best. So are u getting the anthrax or passing on that? I loved the smallpox. got it two years ago and still have a good scar on my arm.

out of lip lights, sorry!!!!!! Guess we're in the same boat as you are. Nope I dont think im getting the anthrazx shot....yet

Babydoll,

Save the lip lights for me and the rest of the crewmemebrs of your unit. The AD can fend for themselves.

See you soon.

Babydoll, its ok. Thanks for looking anyways.

Pkober, play nice, we are all on the same team.

Jetjock19,

We are on the same team.

One unintended effect of the current operations is the tension between the ANG and the AD. I speak from the Ops side only. I can't speak for MX. Hopefully OEF/OIF won't put any deeper divides between us.

Be safe over there. You guys are doing a great job.

Pkober, what ang unit are you from

Yeah, there is always tension between what service you are in and what type of service you are in. We have to work extensively with the Marines here and let me tell you that is an experience of it own. They are definitely programmed differently than we are, but its ok. they probably think the same about us, with some more opinions. But we work around it because we have to work together to get the job done. We make the best of it out of what we have. I agree there shouldn't be any tension between any of us. We are all here to do the same mission and should learn from each other. I respect the guard now that I know more about it. Its just those few people out there who try to say that they are the best and those who follow that. So, I am glad when we all get along. It helps out here. I find the aircrews out here to be a he!! of a lot better. We all get along great out here with MX and OPS. I dont know what it is back home that is so sour, but here it must be the fact that we are all stuck here and have a mission to do no matter what, so we do it. Being out here does bring you together. So good luck if you have to come here soon. And be safe and Im sure ill see you out here in TQ, Iraq.

We gave some airplanes to Boise but think we are gettting them back. Due to BRAC, we are "gaining" four airplanes and we want the ones we gave away back. There will be some other airplanes available soon. We might even pick up four more and split the squadrons.

Try getting that smallpox shot two days before you leave for the desert and then be expected to "keep it clean". I guess the medical folks did not read the travel brochure for the desert. Did not mention clean. When we arrived in our "undisclosed" location in March 03, we dropped our bags and put up our tent...at 3 freaking AM! Fun stuff...and would not trade it for all the nickles in the world!
