JetBlue Airways Pre-Cancels 23 Percent of its
Scheduled Flights for Feb. 17 and 18, 2007

NEW YORK, (Feb.17, 2007) - JetBlue Airways today announces that it has pre-cancelled 23 percent of its Saturday, Feb. 17 and Sunday, Feb. 18 schedule in order to reset the operation by positioning all aircraft and allowing flight crews to reset their operating clocks. Further cancellations may occur throughout the operating days.

The airline has canceled all flights to and from the following cities for Saturday, Feb. 17 and Sunday, Feb. 18:
Austin, TX
Bermuda
Charlotte, NC
Columbus, OH
Houston, TX
Jacksonville, FL
Nashville, TN
Pittsburgh, PA
Portland, ME
Raleigh/Durham, NC
Richmond, VA
.
Flights to other JetBlue destinations may be impacted as well. Customers are asked to check the status of their flight online at www.jetblue.com. Customers whose flights have been canceled will be granted full refunds or JetBlue credit, or may choose to rebook their travel through May 22, 2007.

Refunds and credits may be obtained through www.jetblue.com.

Customers may rebook their travel by calling 800-JETBLUE (800-325-2583). Call volume is high; customers may have difficulty getting through to reservations. Customers may rebook via 800-JETBLUE anytime through May 22.

JetBlue attempted to recover from the Feb. 14 ice storm by selectively canceling flights on Feb. 15 and Feb. 16 in order to help reset the airline’s operation. The benefits of this action were mitigated by further operational constraints at JFK, including a one runway operation on Feb. 15, which resulted in long delays that flowed into Feb. 16.

JetBlue is taking this aggressive, unprecedented action to end rolling delays and cancellations, and to operate a new schedule reliably.

They can precancel or let the people keep stacking up in the terminal. Better to let them know ahead of time.

The latest is an unprecedented CTRL-ALT-DEL of the system to try to get it back up and running normally.

Its just 190 flights. Those planes are always broken anyways.

What percent of JB flights go thru JFK? and same for BOS?

This is the problem when any airline operates out of 1 primary hub.

I can understand a large number of delays and cancellations for a day or two after a bad storm....but 4 days later (Sunday)? The legacies couldn't ask for better publicity.

the port authority does need to share some of the blame, but alot of heads need to rule at the vp level of sceds and ops at jb.

Believe me, I've been in JFK since this unfolded and it is a f__kin joke. I'm embarassed to walk in the terminal. And all the fingers can be pointed to our mgmt. Port Authority has nothing to do with this.

I flew out of EWR Wednesday morning On-time no less. But I was surprised that we (cal) had precancelled so many flights. A little less than 7% of our full sch was cancelled on Wednesday. But on Thursday, the day after the storm we ran a 99.8% completion factor. I dont want to bash JB but CALs proactive approach seems to have worked very well. I think with all the JB spin, we somtimes forget that they are a very young airline with a lot of learning to do.

This is one of the questions I had. EWR dealt with the same wx as JFK on Wed., and we've heard nothing about any problems with CAL. I am embarrassed for our operation and response to this situation...

I flew out of JFK (Delta) this morning and we had numerous difficulties due to the icy ramp and taxiway conditions. Many taxiways that lead onto ramp areas have not been plowed by the port authority. It was pathetic.... I flew out of Cleveland for years in real winter conditions, and PANJNY can't handle a little ice.

jetBlue isnt' the only one being affected.

The quote from the spokesman claimed it was about "safety", as in "The passengers were going to assault the workers." Ok, that's not a real quote, but it's exactly what they're going through.

JBLU had to cancel because the passengers were in mass revolt and the front-line workers couldn't handle it any more. What an absolute debacle.

Sorry JBLU guys, this could be the UAL's "Summer of Love", applied to blue airplanes. This could be the beginning of the end--UAL never quite recovered from that summer of love, JBLU looks like a typical low-fare carrier who can't even run a normal schedule.

Love you guys, but I think you ran too far in front of your management. That's what the news is saying, "Too aggressive growth for managment's ability."

What does growth have to do with this. JFK cant even clear the taxiways and runways, then our mgmt decides to not pre-cancel 2 days ago and pushes the button now. Growth IMO has nothing to do with this mess.

Jetblue is using ATA, North American and Omni to move stranded pax. What a complete mess the've gotten into. This event is going to have a significant impact on the 1Q financials.

My friend working there said the E190s are parked until the 19th. Will that help the situation? Apparently Dave Barger is running around the JFK terminal fuming mad.

Bye Bye--General Lee

I just spoke with a buddy of mine who flies for B6 - he told me the same thing that General Lee pointed out. Why in the world would they park their 190 fleet? How does this benefit anyone? As for blaming the PA of NY & NJ, nice try but it doesn't explain this. Nobody I know who works there on the line can make any sense out of any of this. Absolutely unexcusable.

gasp......could the blue cool-aid be tainted???? I've never heard such language from JB pilots about thier beloved airline....

But....I'll bet the skeds guys don't make the same mistake twice..

When those pax were stranded for 11 hours, please tell me that the T.V's were working....and if so, isn't that about par for the course for Americans nowadays, 11 hours in front of the T.V.

I flew two of the subservice flights last night into this morning. The terminal was in chaos with barely enough room to get to the airplane. The poor gate agents were doing everything they could but with 300-400 pax trying to fill 247 seats it was a losing battle. They were trying to fit A320 seat maps into 757-300's and getting no where. We waited for almost 2 hours to get all the bags loaded. We got to litsen to horror stories of days spent in the terminal waiting to get out of JFK. After getting back into JFK ths afternoon I left through the baggage claim area and there had to be 10,000 or more bags laying in every empty spot on the floor. It will be many more days to get this all sorted out. I can say though that B6 is trying hard as they are chartering multiple carriers and flights to try and get caught up. This is going to be a very expensive situation for B6. Good luck guys.

Pax reponse " God Jetblue sucks as they stranded me in the terminal for 3 days and I will NEVER fly them again!"
2 months later " Hey Hun look Jetblue is $15 cheaper then Delta and American" "Ok lets fly Jetblue" LOL
