Alright, so I flew a flight to HSV yesterday. We had an AWAC non rever on the flight in full uniform. He sits across the isle from a girl that if I had to pick someone out of a line up that has a disease, she would fit the bill (no offense lady if your reading this).

Anywho, these two had not met before; as I heard them introduce themseleves when I went to the lav prior to pushback.

Once we landed in HSV our flight attendant told us that during her in range PA to the passengers he had his hand on her leg and then during her final cabin walk through just before landing that they were sitting next to each other making out! Keep in mind that the guy is in full uniform! She said the passengers behind her were just staring at them. Real professional dude. Passengers dont know the difference between AWAC, Mesa (thank god), etc. They just know US Airways. Thanks for making us all look like a bunch of pervs. No wonder Phoenix hates contract carriers.

Not that I'm attempting to pass any kind of judgement about this particular situation, but wouldn't a better place to take any sort of issue like this up be the AWAC pro standards committee??

Furthermore, if we as a group (regional airline pilots) spent half as much time getting together to make this a better way to make a living, as opposed to sniping at one another we'd probably be a lot better off...... I don't care if you wear a backpack, listen to an iPod, frost your hair, or hit on some chick across the aisle from you. What I do care about is concessionary contracts, not flying aircraft for what they are worth, and the general downward spiral that our little segment of the industry has taken. Worry about fixing the broken industry, and then look to fix your fellow pilots.

The public could care less about what we look, act, or smell like. They want to get there on time, safely, and for the least amount of money. Of that little bit of money that they are willing to pay, we need to work together as a whole to get the largest portion of it possible. Flying bigger aircraft for the same, or less money is not the way to achieve that.

Did you ever think this was a set-up to make fools out of the crew and pax?
When I worked for the feeders, my wife and I would pull the same act. I'd walk up in uniform and sit next to her and we'd start chatting like we never met before. The fact that she looked WAY underage made it even more hilarious to watch the reaction of others around us. It really cemented the image of professional pilots as Studly Playboys!!!

Everyday I get worried more & more about heading toward the regionals, but after this I remember why i started in the first place. It may have not been the right thing to do but at least he wasn't lonely on his lay over that night.

Nice comments but a little over the top. Are you addressing AWAC or the regionals as a whole? FYI . . .

1. Most AWAC pilots (CA's and Fo's hired with real experience) disagree with ATW hiring low timers and pay to play FNG's. They first started this ploy in 2003 and if you were a Great Lakes CA with over 1000 TPIC you were overqualified and not hired. They'll hire FO's from other airlines but are too cheap to lose their own.

2. We have a little know mechanism (in the regionals) in our United Concessionary contract, a real wage adjustment clause. They took the avg of the six largest independent regionals pay for position and year, and brought us up to that plus 2% (or existing pay if we were above that). In our case the raises this spring were from 2%-4.5%. We still get COL raises also. Our "$21" FO now starts at $24, 2nd yr $35, 8th yr maxes out at $42.

If that story is true, our little FO punk did show bad judgement. At least wear a golf shirt, get her number and save it for later, if you can't hold back your raging hormones.

I'm guessing its one of our FA's who does like to pick up on the ladies and is kind of a ladies man, and does commute out of HSV. They wear the same uniform as us with the exception of the epaulets. Thats my guess.
