AWA is hiring again...
A letter of rec from a current AWA pilot would be a good idea.
I believe there will be upwards of 150 hired in the next 12 months.
New hire spots will be available in the 737, bus, and 757.
Calls for interviews started this week.

good luck.....we're all counting on you.

AWAC PAY!

I know this has been mentioned in the previous post but I cannot locate it! what is the 5 year pay structure for F/O's and Captains.
How long do you sit reserve? When can a newhire hold a line? Who determines what aircraft you can hold and is their a seat lock? What is the min guarantee flight hours? How much on an average does a new hire fly on reserve vs a line? If they continue to hire what is the estimated upgrade time?

Thanks in advance!

So, what's the source of the hiring growth? Is AWA expected to add aircraft or are people vacating their seats and going to greener pastures? 150 pilots in 12 months - is that normal attrition or will there be more growth?

That's good news. I'd love to fly one of those side-stick busses...

AWA hasn't hired to keep pace with retirements -- seniority list shows about 100 fewer bodies than pre-9/11. Maybe HR heard about Southwest's hiring -- more than just a few AWA captains in SW's pool . . .

Cheers!

I submitted my resume and app in April of 99 window. Is there a number I can call to see on the status? I last updated about 6 months ago at the request of HR. Heard nothing since.

Since when is AWA a regional? This is news to me.

I will paraphrase what AWA CEO Douglas Parker said in an employee "townhall meeting" (can't remember the exact quote, but it went something like this):

'if you want more money and retirement, go somewhere else; but, if you want to have fun, America West is the place to be' -- or words to that effect. Unfortunately, a mindset reminiscent of another "regional" I once worked at . . .

Having fun, loving my job, grateful to be employed, but still disappointed with "the boss's" mindset. Cheers!

So what are you going to do about it? ....... sit there and fell sorry for yourself , or go look for greener pastures at SW , Jet Blue et al

Thanks for the laugh, PHX! Reminded me of that scene in the Blues Brothers, where the neo-nazis are "stirring up support" on the bridge ("What are you going to do about it, . . .")

I sure didn't mean to come across as whiney, just stating facts and why some might not consider America West as a career airline.

Like I said, I'm having fun, love my job and the opportunity to work with the most talented aviators in the industry. When I get old enough to worry about my future, I'll go where my skills garner a better dollar.

Cheers!

I think that the "regional" name belongs to AWAC, which I believe is the acronym for Air Wisconson.

Hi!

Just so there's no confusion:

AWA = America West Airlines
they are a hub and spoke airline and fly "Big" jets, and have "Small" jets codeshare feeding them (mosly/only? Mesa)

AWAC = Air Wisconsin
they are a "regional" and fly "Small" (and maybe some "big"-100 seat RJs? or at least not small?) they code share for UAL and are now also doing AirTran feed hubbed out of ATL. THey used to have the best regional airline contract (well over $100K for captains, with a company funded retirement plan (not just 401Ks)

AWA is expanding their "Big" jet flying, and is cutting back on RJs.
They are hiring pilots and will throughout 2004. They made a net profit in the 2nd and 3rd quarters of this year:

Info:
"As you may have noticed, we are already ramping up hiring for flight crews in anticipation of 2004 growth. This growth will be accomplished through increased fleet utilization and additional aircraft. "

I just went to their website, and they say there are no openings. I believe that their is a pool of AWA guys who have passed the intervew and are waiting for classes?

If anyone knows how you can send in AWA apps at this time, we'd appreciate the info.

I think this argument was beaten to death last year regarding Comair legally being a major etc.

Generally speaking, regionals feed majors. If it's that important to you though, you can call it whatever you want.

You idiots have way to much time on your hands. Go read the FAR's or play with your E6B's. You sound like a couple of aviation geeks. Sorry to bring this thread to the top with impertinent info but I couldn't resist.

Does anyone know if the LORs need to be from AWA pilots, or would a LOR from someone who works in Dispatch, or in a management position be as beneficial?

Thanks in advance.
