Congrats Hansoma!

Had a fellow AF aviator that was recently hired by America West and I will second the Hansoma Timetable. He put his App in and 3 weeks later he was called to interview "the next week" and at the conclusion of the interview, was offered employment at America West. Very Fast and almost too fast for him to juggle other offers – He’s thrilled to be in the pool and can’t wait to exit the USAF and start with America West. If you get an app, then you are on the totem pole, if you've got LORs and an app, you are pretty near the top of the totem pole from what I hear. No guarantee they stay on this timetable though .... Get in the door when you can is always the right answer

Does it help if you give Tracy T. a call. I have a LOR and was given her office phone number. I didn't call yet cuz I didn't want to get her p/o at me. Any thoughts?

Tracy is good people!!!! I don't think she would get pi$$ed but I don't think you would be lucky enough to ever catch her at her desk. She is always on the move doing interviews and conferences and rarely at her desk but It can't hurt to try!!

Her message machine specifically says to not inquire about individual resumes.

Just got the app a few days ago, planning on mailing it tomorrow. I have a friend who gave the LOR back in Oct, my question is, do I send another copy of it along with my app? they should still have the one my friend gave on file right?

Thanks for any replyes.

JetMonkey:

They should still have the LOR but I'd send a copy anyway. Also have your friend call on your behalf to grease the wheels. Good luck.

Hansoma and Whisky Driver,

Are you really enjoying AWA? I ask because I have a friend that went there this year and quit after a few months because he said there was too much griping and complaining in the cockpit.

Is there that type of environment at AWA? Another close friend is thinking about dumping a really good corporate job to go there, and I'd like him to have the straight scoop before he decides.

Hansoma, how does it compare to HA? If recalled, will you go back?

English,

I have been at AWA for four years and I am happy to be there. The best part of AWA is the people you work with. The worst part is a sub-standard contract and management that still doesn't get it. However, Doug Parker is worlds better than Bill Franke. At least Parker knows how to run an airline.

I came to AWA from the corporate side, got furloughed after 9-11, got a very good corporate job during the furlough, yet it took me all of two seconds to accept the recall when I got the call.

As with any airline or corporate flight department, you will fly with a$$holes. Fortunately, at AWA it is the exception rather than the rule. Plus at AWA you can "No Fly" the a$$holes, in the corporate world you're stuck with them.

Regarding the idiot Captain who went nuts..........

Was he perhaps a certain Airbus guy who weighs about 400 lbs.

Is it normal to wait in excess of 3 months without a call for an interiew? I've got a LOR and turned an app in late Feb. I still haven't heard anything; do I still have a chance?

No, but I know who you are talking about! :D

This was a 757 Captain and has a history of "incidents" with crew members. Apparently he kept being able to fool the psych people they sent him to, because he kept showing up back on the line! :(

just got the app a few days ago. had a 15 year captain walk my resume in i think around the first of the year. he said he will also write me a letter to send in with my app. another friend told me i was about the fourth person he knew to get an app in about a week. he said most of the growth comes from flying the a/c more.

will letters from new hires have any effect? in addition to the captains letter?

IVE BEEN AT ATA FOR ABOUT FIVE MONTHS. I WENT TO AN AIRINC CONFERENCE A LONG LONG TIME AGO AND GAVE A RESUME. I JUST GOT AN APP A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO..... DONT KNOW A SOUL WHO WORKS FOR THE COMPANY.

From what I was told it carries some weight but not much. If you know someone here that's not on probation go that route!!!

OK, the cat's out of the bag:

I sent in my app April 14, got the call May 6th - just about 3 weeks. I was out of the house and the message said there was one spot left for a May 11th interview, but by the time I got home it was taken. Because of my flying in Fairbanks and the difficulty of getting out, I chose a June 8th interview.

Nothing bad to say about Hawaiian (or where I'm at now), but a job with a major is better than waiting for recall or my current job in Navajos.

Be seeing ya there Hansoma!

HAL

Sent in my app May 17th, and got a call tonight about 7pm to interview on june 1! I'm really excited, and agree with HAL. AWA is so much better than my former airline (different than HAL), I can't wait to get started again. It's funny, I understand the down side to furloughed guys, but having been through that, it makes me appreciate the opportunity so much more than I ever would have before. Anybody else going that week? Good luck to all!

Steve

I just got home from a four day and can honestly say this company is great and the people I work with make it even better.

People seem to bash us as disgruntled, but they are usually the ones that don't even work for for AWA.

Granted, many are not happy with the new contract and the union, but this has zero effect on my happiness in the cockpit. Every captain I have flown with thus far has been top notch.

At my old airline you would pass other pilots in the terminal and you couldn't even get eye contact. Here, you almost always get a "how you doin?"

For those that just got hired, welcome! The training department is awesome and you will be happy with any of the aircraft.

Bid the 737, I need more people under me!

That's great!
