Just wondering if any other frac has a training contract? The one at Avantair from what I understand is a bit stiff. Non prorated for 365 days and various other items. Anyone with any knowledge please shed some light.

What is the washout rate and the people having to pay this?

CS has a one year contract. $20,000. Guys leave but you never hear if it is enforced or not. I have only heard of one wash out in the last year. I would say it would be very hard to collect on that one.

Been there, paid that....

Let me assure you that unless they are written by a non-lawyer, these things are most definitely enforceable. As distasteful as they are in most situations, a company's ability to collect on them is limited only by their determination. I've heard all sorts of arguments from naive pilots, including someone's claim that they would be found by a court amount to "involuntary servitude", but that's simply not the case.

If asked to sign one do the due diligence necessary to understand exactly what you're committing to, then make the decision. Under no circumstances sign one that would compel you to pay if you are involuntarily separated from the company for any reason. ASA is going through some of this right now - you might want to look into that situation for an additional twist on the subject. Caveat emptor.

Your Honor, I Object !!!!!

Didn't I hear that the CEO of Avantair is a New York City Lawyer?

That's enough to make your knees go weak when contemplating breaking that contract, let's hope that nothing unexpected happens the first year.:smash:

From what I've heard, they've only held one person to that contract. They only did that because he walked in one day and just quit. At least that's the story I heard....

The new CBA at NetJets abolished all training contracts.

the contract is pretty heavy but I've heard the same - not many asked to pay, it was written by a team of lawyers so be careful

Well they certainly can't collect a training contract if they washed you out. You didnt leave, they fired you!

Contract

Just spoke with someone here on flightinfo and they say it says you still owe them if terminated. If you do not make it through ground school or you leave, you owe them $8000.00. Once you start flight training and you leave on your own or they decide to tell you to leave you now owe them $18000.00
Sounds stiff to me, maybe this could be a reason why they can not find enough people. Anyone here tested the water?
