Please do the rest of us and the entire industry a favor and STOP WEARING BACKPACKS AND IPODS while in uniform. You don't walk down the terminal wearing a baseball cap, the same rule applies to backpacks. While on duty and in uniform, stop looking like you're on your way to Biology class. If you absolutely have to bring a backpack, please put it on your roller bag. Also, you don't need to wear sunglasses in the terminal, it's not that bright. They don't make you look "cool" or "hip."

Yes mom. What an idiot.

It's always sunny in the land of cool.

I'm not a new-hire, but I'm just wondering if I'm allowed to use my iPod on a 3.5 hour "Airport Appreciation" break. I get bored easily and I find a little Barry Manilow helps.

Just wanted to clear it with the iPod police to save myself any further embarrassment.

As long as your not walking down the terminal, jamming to your ipod and wearing your top gun sunglasses on your epaulettes.

So when I saw a United captain wearing a backpack in ORD last week, was that ok because he wasn't a newhire? Or is it ok because he didn't have spikey hair?

Phewww! Guess I'm OK then. I wear my Oakleys on top of my head, not on my epaulettes.

Who cares? I'd be more concerned with the yellow armpit stains I see all the time.

So if it's not an Ipod I'm fine, right? BTW, it's not a backpack, it's a computer case. If my hair looks spikey it's because I just got up and am currently stumbling my way to the nearest washroom to take care of the problem.

Finally, these shoes are polished and if you get any closer, you'd better have decent smelling breath, no B.O., be 5'4" minimum, have something other than a very large beer gut, have a friendly personality, and be ready to share your phone number. Unless you're the captain of my next or previous flight, in which case the above doesn't apply except I'm hoping for the decent breath and no B.O.

Carry on.

They might be "scrips" and when you are always wearing them, you sometimes dont even realize they are still on unless it gets really dark. Not everyone is trying to be cool with sunglasses.

I had an FO while on IOE take his headset and stick the boom down below and let one rip. He laughed really hard until he saw I wasn't laughing. WTF!!??

I think the whole backpack thing is a throwback from military thinking. ...You don't wear a satchel over your shoulder or a backpack because it covers (disrespects) your rank (epaulettes). I think it looks tacky. But We arent in the military.

I gotta have my ipod for the commute delays to and from work. I honestly don't care what other people do.

Company headset or his own personal headset? If its a company headset he pulled that with....PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS!!!!

What if someone happens to wear their backpack instead of putting it on the ol' rollerboard because the handle is broke? Or what about if someone has a hands free ear piece for their cellphone, is that at least ok?
All these rules are really starting to confuse me...

What did all of the ADD First Officers do before the Ipod came out? Is the requirement for constant stimulation that great? This entire social phenomena is bizarre. Maybe they have all read Fahrenheit 451 too many times and actually believe they are living the book.
