I enjoy my music and will continue to wear my iPod.:p For those that don't like it, scream all you want because I wont be able to hear ya anyways. I also like to "loosen" the tie every once in a while-helps me to breath and cool down.

Also, you don't need to wear sunglasses in the terminal, it's not that bright. They don't make you look "cool" or "hip."

Hey, man... my sunglasses on my face and my cellphone on my ear are part of my image! You think I'm gonna give it up just because I'm inside?

the regionals are so gay. new hires are lame, crusty old captains are lame. i saw a regional captain jumpseating wearing his id in one of those ramper style arm band deals. he even had his sleeves rolled up on his shirt to show it off. what a tool! god im glad i dont work at a regional.

Not at a regional?

Why are you slumming here if you are not at a regional? Why don't you go over to the "flying checks in a broke-a$s Piper" board? Maybe you can find inspiration with more of your bretheren there.....

Yeah, everyone hates the oakley-wearing, I-Pod jamming (dave mathews-usually) spikey-haired little punks we run into. I think these come in the orientation pkg. down at riddle and some folks take these things with them into the "professional" world.

Please do the rest of us and the entire industry a favor and STOP WEARING BACKPACKS AND IPODS while in uniform. You don't walk down the terminal wearing a baseball cap, the same rule applies to backpacks. While on duty and in uniform, stop looking like you're on your way to Biology class. If you absolutely have to bring a backpack, please put it on your roller bag. Also, you don't need to wear sunglasses in the terminal, it's not that bright. They don't make you look "cool" or "hip."

I would say that a majority of the pilots out there that are wearing backpacks around the terminal are FFDO's. remember the piece has to be with you at all times: doing the walk around, bathroom or food break, or just telling the gate agent something. Almost all of the guys at my company that I see carrying a backpack are actually "carrying" the Osama killer. So when you go and make fun of guys for wearing their backpacks around think twice about it and maybe they have made the week long sacrifice to defend the flight deck.

i'm slumming because it's entertaining and fun, same reason i go slumming in real life. correction its "flying autoparts in a clapped out falcon 20 & lear24 with more cycles then the tour de france".

YEah, I was going to say, saw a mainline CAL guy wear a backpack in the uniform too. It's not just the new ones.

(Like that drug commercial from the 80's . . . I learned it by watching you!!!)

Personally I could care care less how a guy looks.
I do know this, anyone who runs around pointing fingers usually has a lot more problems than the people he is pointing fingers at.

I think the majority of FFDO's aren't your typical ipod listening, backpack wearing, 20 year old wonderpilot.

HAHAHAHA!!! Some newbies can be so naive. Thanks for the "inside" info on the FFDO peeps. i see we found a defensive, backpack wearing pilot. C'mon man, this thread is all in good fun!!!!!

PS-I respect our FFDO pilots!!!!

I think I'm going to start wearing a backpack now just so I can contibute to this stupid stereotype. I have just the backpack too, a nice orange North Face one that should stand out in the most excellent way as I walk through the terminal. Wouldn't want any of you to miss me!

Dude mom and dad spent so much money to buy me the Ipod and my sunglasses and my new car and my nice Rolex and pay for my apartment and pay for my training and give me a supplement while I work for peanuts. So back off! LOL

Really the issue is because of the Ipod you have people tuning out on those long flights or when you have some one you cant stand. So the younger guys are losing the social skills or the conflict skills that we older guys have. The final thing is we older guys ask for respect for the job and what other have suffered through and fought for. Its is because of what previous pilot groups have done that those kids have what they have now. When you walk around spiked hair, Ipod and backpack you are disrespecting everyone who fought for what you have.

I am NO supporter of the young backpack ipod people . . .

however . . . it needs to be said that there are some of the older pilots who are overweight, smelly, grumpy and sometimes rude to passengers that do nothing to help the image of the profession either

is it okay to look like gene wilder, in silver Streak, who drsssed up like a brother coming out of the men's room? you had to see the picture

There's no shortage of "older guys" who've never had and sort of social or conflict skills. The young guys at least have a chance to develop those skills with a little guidance, don't know if you can say the same about the older guys.
