The point is, redeem them as soon as you are able for 50% of the face value and invest the cash. If you're saving for a kid's college, put it in a 529 account. You'll do waaayyyy better than waiting for the full maturity of the EE bond.

Agreed. And already did it myself. Interestingly, I had bonds that were nearly twelve years old. After almost twelve years, I had a $100 bond that i cashed for just under $70! Considering it was worth half the face value when I first got it, that means I gained only $20 in twelve years!!!

I cashed them ALL in (and I had quite a large bunch) and put them in my kid's 529 account most recently when the market was near bottom, and wow! the returns for that account have been huge! Wish my 401K was doing half as well (maybe it is, since it's worth just a little more than half of what it was 2 years ago! LOL!) I realize that anything can happen with that 529 account over the next 18 years, but even with only very modest gains, it'll still beat the heck out of the standard returns on those bonds.

It's 50% of face value plus a buck or two depending on how long you've had it. You have to wait a year from date of issue to redeem them. Based on present value of future dollars, I cashed in a bunch about 6 months ago to buy something that will appreciate in value as the Obama years wear on: another .45 1911 model.

Amen brother. I had a STACK of those things, cashed them in, bought a whole lot of Ammo a few years ago when the MILSURP was beginning to go up in price. It's now worth 4-5 times what I paid for it!

I just got 6 if anyone needs them.

The first to send me an address gets them. Send me $5 and they're yours. Yep, ya get one for free!

Atlantic is such an aweful FBO to begin with...why do your companies use them? They are expensive. Their customer service is the worst in the industry. They just aren't worth using.

By no means does NJA "want" to use Atlantic. Sometime we have no choice.

Lucky me, I fly a g2 and it takes two stops and I get the 40 I need... don't send them to me my wife trades sex for the card. If they cancel it becasue I cheat I will nev er get laid again

I didn't have problem getting 40 this year, and I had several show at home tours. My Captains must feel sorry for me...I'm on the bottom of the seniority list.

What we ought to do is set up a charitable account to pool our awards (unless your wife trades sex for it of course;)). Then use the card to buy Toys for Tots or some other charity. I've got 13 or 14 of those things on my account and they are going to expire. That is a shame, especially since their gas is the most expensive on the planet! If any of you are interested in that, you can PM me. I don't know how I can verify that I gave the money to charity though. Maybe post a picture of the card and the Marine? Just a thought.

And if someone wants to collect certificates to give to charity next year, I'm in for that too.

I'll sweeten the pot a little. If you send me enough coupon numbers to get a card for charity, I'll give you all my next years coupons. PM me.

Crap! I just realized I left a few tickets in an airplane cockpit the other day when we had to make a last-minute airplane switch.....

Send them to me. I'll make sure they make it charity. yeah... that's the ticket....

I already entered my certificates, or I would give them to you. They ain't gonna do me any good. And I hate to see them go to waste, especially since Atlantic gouges the s--- out of us on the gas!

BOYCOTT ATLANTIC: They charge $1.50 - $2.00 a gallon more than any other FBO. For the purchase of 100 gallons, they give me $5 of their $150 - $200 gouge! Anybody see a problem here?

It sucks to be the little guy. I'm at Atlantic all the time but when you fly a little pi$$ant jet that doesn't even take a lot of gas on a topoff you never get a lot of certificates. F Atlantic I say!

I never had the patience for this bull******************** program even when it was "good".

I'll waste my time and effort on something with a more fruitful potential--- like the lottery.

Just gimme a damn tee-shirt and keep your "bucks".

Eh, to each his own. I paid my cable/internet bill for several months with mine, and a t-shirt won't do that. ;)
