General Hiring and Interview Information
ATA continues to accept resumes from qualified persons. If you would like to
recommend an individual for a pilot position, please follow these steps:
1. Type a letter of recommendation for the individual. It does not have to be
lengthy, just the basics of you knowledge of this person.
2. Obtain the persons resume or send your letter to the applicant.
3. Send the resume and letter together to the Chief Pilots Office for review.
All applicants that have a letter of recommendation automatically receive applications to
complete, provided they meet the minimum qualifications, which are:
· 2500 hours flight time
· 500 hours multi-engine
· ATP Certificate
· First Class Medical
· College Degree Preferred (but not required)
We mail applications out every 2 weeks. There is now a $25.00 application fee, which the
applicant submits with the completed application.
Note: Do not give out applications if you have any. Applications received that were not
sent from the office will not be accepted. Our applications have recently changed in
content and color, so please destroy any applications you might still have.
We review applications in the order they are received, starting with the applicants that
have been recommended. At this point, the applicant continues through the process on
his or her own merits. Your recommendation is helpful, but the applicant must be
competitive, and currently, the competition is fierce.
FAQ’s
1. Do I have to type the letter, or can I just call in?
· Calling in will not be acceptable for a recommendation. If the person you
are helping is not worth the effort to type a short letter, then are they really
someone you want to recommend?
2. How long does the process take?
· We receive hundreds of resumes and applications and we review them
when needed. From the time we receive the resume and your letter of
recommendation, it will be at least 6 weeks before they could be called for
an interview, assuming they return the application immediately after
receiving it. I most cases, it is longer than that based on the qualified
applicants ahead of them already set to be called.
3. Can I check on the status of a friend?
· Certainly, you can call your Regional Chief Pilot, or better yet, email them
and they will contact our office to get an update. Please leave a message

One question.

New hire projection for January, February and March classes: 40

Is that 40 total, for all 3 classes, JAN, FEB, MAR?

Of the 40 hired during the 3 month span, how many do you expect to be furloughed flight engineers. As one of the 28 in the pool, I find it odd that they plan to interview/hire still another two months.

Thanks, and happy holidays to all.

"......We mail applications out every 2 weeks. There is now a $25.00 application fee, which the applicant submits............"

Change to read: Because we are a bunch of corporate A$$hole jerkoffs and like to kick hard working pilots (many who are furloughed) while they are down, we will charge a $25.00 app fee.

Does anyone know if the $25 application fee is a one time shot? Or do I have to pay each time I send in an update?

BTW - If I have to pay each time, I do not think I am ATA material!

As far as the number expected to be hired, 40 total is what I would expect...not 40 each month.

There is a ratio in place that brings back one furloughed flight engineer for every 3 new hires.

Our pool is not first in/first out. I was interviewed with a friend of mine...I was hired for class next week and he was placed in the pool. He finally came out 6 months later (and a few numbers junior). They pull from the pool based on qualifications required at that moment.

I do not know if they hire furloughed UAL, AMR, DAL....we have hired furlouged US Airways so I don't see why they wouldn't.

As far as I know the application fee is a one time deal...as long as you have one on file you are not charged to update.

Application Fee

The fee is simply to try and keep the numbers down just a little to those who are seriously interested in applying and getting a job with ATA. I know, it seems somewhat trivial, but you would be surprised at how many people out there would spend the 2-3 hours required to do the application correctly but are too tight to break a Jackson and a Lincoln out of their wallet (about 5 beers with tip at a bar).

If you meet the qualifications, want to work for a major (small major, but still a major), and are looking for a career, $25 shouldn't be too much to ask. And it keeps the workload down somewhat on the folks in the CP office. They are overworked as it is given the company cuts to try and save money. They certainly aren't trying to kick anyone while they're down.

Do the recommendations required to get an application have to come from an ATA pilot or can they be from anybody you fly with? I know nobody at ATA nor do I know of anybody that knows someone at ATA.

The recommendations are supposed to be provided by current ATA pilots. They are very big on internal recommendations. This doesn't mean that you can't get an application or even get hired without the recommendation....there are several here who have been. But the recommendation carries weight and is a definite advantage.

Money to burn..

You may be out of work,as I am, but have you spent $25 in the last week on that application fee for that new apartment, beer, cigs, movies, eating out, lottery tickets,a new cd/dvd? Any or all the above? Remember when American had a thirty day window and a $100 app fee? It could be worse. I digress. Thanks for bearing with me.

BU-Air:

The interview process has changed a little since I went through in late summer. But from what I gather, this is how things go...

You should receive a phone invite approx. 2-3 weeks before the actual interview date. If there are spots available when it comes your turn, you get to pick which date you would like. ATA interviews Mon thru Thurs. It is your responsibility to get to IND for the interview. The process doesn't start until late morning or early afternoon. You can come in the morning or the evening before.

After introductions, you are left doing paperwork. As this is going on, one by one, you will be pulled out to do an interview with a HR person and a Management pilot or line Captain. Extremely friendly people and they want to see if you would get along with the ATA group. Most of the questions should be along the lines of "get to know you type." Should take no more than 15-30 minutes with each.

Once everyone is finished, you take a drive to Purdue University. This is where the sim eval is done. It's in an old 727-100 sim. Straight forward and no tricks.

After the sim portion, it's off to diner and the hotel. This should be covered by ATA. In the morning. you are driven back to IND for your flight home.

sayagain?

update app. ??

Due to being furloughed I have had to sell my house and have put things in storage. Unfortunetly, I have misplaced some important addresses in the move (I know, pretty stupid). If anyone has the method or address to update the ATA application, can you please post? Thanks.

Same as you set the last one to:

ATA
P.O. Box 51609
Indianapolis, IN 46251

Attn: Capt. Mike Gerdes IND Regional Chief Pilot

Good luck.

update

Thanks for the address. I just want to give them my new address. So do I just send them a resume with the new address and tell them this is an update to an application? Sorry for all the questions. I have done updates before with fedex and JB on the internet or on a scan-tron form like United, but I am unfamiliar with ATA's update procedure. Again thanks for any info.

Yeah, I'd send a resume with the new information and a nice cover letter explaining the reason for the update. The Flight Department secretaries will enter the information into the computer they have to keep track of all that stuff. This is also a good time to include any new letters of recommendation that you have received from ATA pilots. I know of a few guys who updated with new recs and got called for an interveiw soon after. The update made them look at their files again and generated the interview.

Good Luck again.

Anyone know if ATA requires one to give up thier seniority number if furloughed from another airline ?

Anyone know of ....

Has anyone done a sim prep for the ATA interview. I hear that you go up to Purdue and fly the 727-100 for the interview.

A training Captain at ATA told me someone rents out the that sim for preps, but I don't know who does it.

thanks..
