Maybe we should keep the pbs base system, but take control of construction from the company. That way, one can complain only to ALPA and not the company. ALPA wouldn't have a way to pass the buck. I sure am going to like the new blood comming this way. I hope some of the politics can go by the wayside.

Uh... Hello... ALPA already builds the pairings.

Uh...Well then tell us what needs to be done. ALPA is doing some sucking somewhere. This in its present form will not make it I don't care how it gets people off reserve.

If PBS is voted out it will still be Flica. Or skedplus.

With PBS I build a week off each month and turn one week vaca into 20 days. And a junior person can do it with PBS. He doesn't have to hope for a line that will work.

Yep you have every opportunity to change your schedule and get what you need! It works most of the time as there is a massive amount of open time to work with (usually). Our bidding system is SUPERIOR to any PBS system period.

You might vote out PBS, but the company chooses the bid system and it won't be what you have now.

And what are you going to give for it?

I'm not a negotiator. I'll judge any future TA as a total package and I'm not opposed to PBS with some work rule fixes. My point was that the notion that "the company chooses the bidding system and it won't be what [XJT] has now" is preposterous. While ASA changed our line bidding program from FLiCA to CrewBid prior to the PBS negotiations, that doens't mean we couldn't have contract language to prevent that. We chose the PBS vendor & the company can't change it without union consent, so there is no reason to think that we couldn't preserve the vendor of the line bidding system XJT uses if we wanted to. Anything is negotiable. It's up to the JNC to decide if that is something worth negotiating for. From XJT's position they don't really have to give anything up for it; if they vote no they preserve their status quo.

I agree. Junior guys get to work the holidays. That's the way it is. The issue is that the company WILL try and use this every month. Mgmt hasn't negotiated in good faith or operated in good faith for DECADES, and suddenly some guys are happy with PBS cause they got off reserve?

It's like the Stockholm syndrome.

Very well put.

I still cannot believe our pilot group was silly enough to vote this agreement through. Our union is partly to blame. Awful corruption-no other excuse for that dishonest sales job.

-Completely shameful.. Our union (the one we used to believe in) is gone. (Just look at how many long-timers have resigned or been forced out in the last couple of years.)

With line bidding, when I was 450 out of 500, I was able to get AT LEAST 20 days off for my one week of vacation even with my 450th pick. I didn't have to "hope" for anything. After the ILIW/SLIW I could easily turn it into more if desired.

so there is no reason to think that we couldn't preserve the vendor of the line bidding system XJT uses if we wanted to.

The bid software that XJT uses now is capable of doing PBS. It's simply a matter of paying them more money to rearrange all the 1's and 0's to do so.

It's the same that TWA used to use. And if you ask anybody that used it there, or knows/is related to anybody there, it's probably the best software to run it.

However, if I'm not mistaken, the TWA ALPA people had 100% full control from the top down on how it worked. No company intervention.
