I think they are skipping over IAD based FOs in the reserve list so they can utilize the TDYs more since they're already paying for a hotel for the TDYs. IAD reserves don't catch it unless we're sitting at the computer refreshing the reserve list all day.

However, the morons at the GO think paying a pilot 22 hours over guarantee is cheaper than paying for a hotel room for 4 days. Meanwhile the poor reserves BASED in IAD have to pay for their own hotel rooms/crashpads.

I am constantly amazed at the stupidity of our scheduling dept.

I'm not so sure this is scheduling's screw up. I think it goes above that.

Also TDY assignments should be up for bid as I know many people that would love to get them and married people with families who can't deal with them.
 
There was a TDY preference in the bid package. Other than the horrific JFK nap, I actually enjoyed my TDY so I bid for it next month.
