ASA will be ending service to MCN very soon. Here is the new airline and equipment is a Cessna Caravan.

After careful consideration of this matter, including the comments of the Mayors of both Athens and Macon, and after carefully reviewing all three carriers’ proposals, we have decided to select Georgia Skies’ Athens - Atlanta and Macon - Atlanta proposalsfor a combined annual subsidy of $2,437,692 for a new, two-year term beginning when the carrier inaugurates full EAS to both communities. The carrier’s proposal for Athens would provide 12 weekly nonstop round trips to and from Atlanta for an annual subsidy rate of $1,051,386; and the carrier’s proposal for Macon would provide 26 weekly nonstop round trips to Atlanta for an annual subsidy rate of $1,386,306.

The only reason they ever went there is the first place was that's where MTC was.

I'd rather ride on Groom Transpotation van than fly in a CE-208 from MACONGA........
bouyyyyyyyy.....

As a taxpayer, this subsidy should royally piss you off. Macon is a 90 mile drive up the interstate. Athens is 82 miles -- hell, that's only twice my drive to work!

End the EAS program now. This is pork at its worst.

If you think this is "pork at it's worst", then you have no true clue what happens in Washington, or with it's crooks. EAS is the only break the airlines get- I think they deserve the subsidy- hell, they're taxed at a rediculous anyway. I look at it as a rebate.....

Besides, two million to run the route is a joke. The airplanes cost 1.2 million. Throw in fuel, maint, crew cost, and other labor- it won't last long before ASA, or another carrier, ends up with that EAS route.

It may pay off considering they pay their FO's $8hr and they also work the ticket counter and throw the bags...plus the van burns 350 to 400 pph

Well, if ASA comes back to MCN, they should charge a HELL of a lot just to get back at them.....

You can thank the EAS program for allowing you to fly to hot spots like Utica and Saranac Lake for as long as you did. Talk about looking a gift horse in the mouth.

 Settle down, Beavis!

Ah, how could I forget the thriving metropolis that was Utica? :D Didn't you and I pace around that damn town for a whole afternoon, searching in vain for a bar that was open on some holiday?

I think the closest we got was a 40 from the gas station...

I don't believe that DL will end this svc anytime soon. Wings Air has no affiliation with DL and as long as the Gov will pay the EAS fee we will be there. If an a/c needs to go to MCN for mtc might as well try to make money off of it.

The article I read stated that DAL was out of MCN totally. I do believe ASA is also closing the MX Base there. I do know that most if not all the parts were brought up to ATL from MCN.

-Good riddance to that depressing cesspool of humanity!

Do you have the link to that article? DL did announce they would leave MCN prior to being awarded EAS to MCN.

yeah, prob the C-34 gate and they will directly throw in the caravan window the low-pressure AC tube.

It will. If you apply your logic they, DAL & ASA, would have done what they did in MEI. Check the DOT.

Hey, Wings Air is flying "state of the art Navajo Cheiftans, with 350 hp engines enabeling them to climb above most inclement weather". WTF Cheiftans haven't been state of any art in atleast 20 years, and the last time I flew one it was sorely unpressurised so I guess those TS are going to top out at like 5000 ft.

I check out the Macon Telegraph website, but you have to register to get the full article. I didn't want to waste my time registering for that snotrag.

Just go to the website and search the archives-use "pacific wings." You can see part of the article without registering-the part where it states that these clowns in caravans are taking over service from ASA.

Those morons in MCN will be praying for RJs again soon. They did this to themselves.

-Retards.

This is why you can't get rid of pork spending in DC....Everyone wants to get rid of other peoples pork, but want to preserve their own....

The EAS program should be ended along with many other programs.....

This country can't afford ANY of it......

Sorry, just finished a 12 mile bike ride in 87 degree heat. I think I may have fried my brain. :smash:

Looks like I'm going to have to start paying more in gas and parking to get to ATL. ASA please don't leave. My company doesn't have a jumpseat agreement with this new airline. Macon isn't that bad of a place. Please stay... just a little bit longer... :erm:

Do you actually depend on 3 flights a day when it is only a short drive?

The Caravan is a very efficient airplane. In order to save gas I taxi on one engine and ...err keep the condition lever in low idle and stuff.
