Dunno if you were intentionally trying to be ironic, but well said.

I sincerely hope for no furloughs.

Nothing Ironic about it.. BH is a great guy. Very smart. But with that said, he will not B.S. you. He is straight up..

good luck, sister company.

Brad's message sounded kinda like a back pedal from a 'we have no intention of furloughing.'

At any rate, it's gonna suck in the fall. A paycut no matter how you slice it for eveyone. Line holders back to reserve, maybe some Captains to FO, and higher block lines to probably something closer to 75 for everyone.

Good Luck.

Nobody taking into account all the Management, Medical, and Military leave pilots on your list? How many do you have? Take that from your number of expected furloughs.

I really think you missed Over's point: the game is different now than post 9/11. If it makes you feel better that ASA has never furloughed, or that SKYW didn't furlough, great.
I am missing the point - both Oveur's and yours evidently. My suggestion was that the management team is averse to furloughs under conditions when other management teams were not. If SKYW were to be forecasting a loss in the near term, perhaps they would be less so. However, the analysts following SKYW are forecasting diminished but continuing profits. Whether the stress is terrorism or high gas prices, I think there is a very good possibility that both SkyWest and ASA will come through this without furloughing. Reserve levels will be high (some pilots may need to make an effort to fly a trip just to stay current), lines will be thin, but no pilot will be furloughed. That is my prediction based on what I know about the mindset of the managment team.

The biggest wrench in my rationale as I see it is that PBS is in effect now (at SkyWest anyway) and I don't know if management has the ability to force the max value of a line. If they don't, all bets are off.

They are already working on mitigating any hardship. COMA lines are out and that will take some out of the fold month to month. Additionally, you will see lines spread out so much they will be about 75 hours total. Our schedule will be reduced but not as much as elsewhere. ASA should be able to absorb it. Just don't count on getting off reserve anytime soon if you're on it. I have a lot of confidence in our leadership, first time ever for me while at ASA. I really don't believe ASA will be furloughing.

Trojan
Are they already offering those COMA lines or are they coming when things slow down?

Not sure what's going to happen with my job either. However, I would say that ASA/SkyWest are probably the least likely to furlough of all airlines out there... although you might want to get comfortable on reserve!

And one thing I've got to say; SkyWest, Inc. Management: Love 'em or hate 'em, these boys sure know how to run an airline!

AMEN.....

Dang Joe, don't you want to kick some ASA pilots about to be furloughed too?

Unfortunately, running a good airline means trimming unneeded workers when there isn't work for them to do.

I don't think Skywest is going to do that.....They are ready to take up some flying if necessary....Very smart.....

Skywest doesn't do that....Sorry if the Koolaid bothers you.....You sound like management DoinTime.....

Doesn't do what? Run a good airline?

You are the one with your nose up management's a**.

....doesn't "trim unneeded workers"....after 911, Skywest didn't furlough even though they were overstaffed.....They are likely setting themselves up to pick up potential Mesa flying....Smart management...

I don't have my nose up anyones a**......You seem to have yours up Herndons.....I'll take Skywest management over yours or our former management any day....Good management trumps ALPA....Sorry.......

We will see how good your management is come your next contract negotiations.

....I'm more concerned about a growing profitable company that treats it's people well...Skywest does that.....

We have to compete in this environment since your ALPA can't seem to deal with scope......
