We dont go in there but--- something tells me that is a spot and speed kinda landing... There is not a lot of room for finesse on a 4800 foot long runway... thats extremely short for an RJ (or any J)

I would drive it on too.

It can be done there with no problem. I believe the CR7 only needs about 3000' to land. That airport is more of a mental problem than anything else. Just looks real short when your used to 9000' runways. Until recently it was a Captains only takeoff and landing airport which leads to more of the head game.

No big deal, just thought it was amusing since my crew gave me hell for it.

I agree that it's probably just an optical issue. I've flown the CR2 in there about a dozen times and it just looks impossible on short final @ 135 knots. But each time we had room to spare and had to let up on the brakes in order to roll to the end. Sure is a lot of fun though. Actually, takeoff is even more exciting. I find myself watching that Vr speed creep up so slowly as the runway end keeps getting closer and closer.

PS. Isn't it funny how people judge the *whole* flight based on the landing?

shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit. Try taking off & landing at Walker's Cay, Bahamas (MYAW) in a 402. 2,500 feet and not a foot longer because the ocean is on both sides with bull sharks at both ends also

I always hated landing 27 since it was sort of down slope

however, walkers was one of my fav. places to fly into. Beautiful!

I used to go into Walkers three times a week a few years back. Fun place isn't it.

Last Jepp revision.....never told a soul, of course, you just had to figure it out yourself. The new -10 pages for KEYW state that the takeoff and landing are at the captain's discretion. It no longer states that it is a "captain only" manuever.

And the DHC-8 can make the midfield turnoff. And the DHC-7 could probably land across the runway with a tailwind. A DHC-6 on floats wouldn't need the airport at all.

Back when ASA got BAe146's (~1997) some senior captains went to the director of flight ops, the Great Brain himself, Bubba Shanahan,and suggested that we go direct ATL-EYW.

His response was that it was impossible, because we couldn't back it up with an ATR if the jet broke....

Getting eaten by sharks ain't so bad, not when you compare it to dying from some kind of slow painful death from a disease.

Besides, surviving an incident or an accident don't mean that the angel of death has given up. I know of an incident in Wisconsin where a guy clung overnight to his capsized boat until he was rescued the next morning. What a waste of time, he got plowed while riding a moped the following weekend and was killed instantly.
