Holy cow! Saw that too. Good for them. Well, that puts me a lot closer, except... anyone done the jump from RJ FO to EMB CA? Not a prior EMB FO but did some time as PIC in a King-Air a while back. Anyone done that transition? I know, I know, the Brasilia's a beast but just looking for input. The DFW EMB roster seems to be moving at... hmmm... "a medium pace." I dunno, just curious.

I just flew with an FO (RJ) who was moving over to CP on the EMB next month.

I tried to talk some sense into him,.... :)

"I tried to talk some sense into him..."

I know. Funny, I've heard that from virtually every single captain I've flown with over the last four months. And seein' I've been doing relief lines, that's about 25 captains during that time. Still, just curious.

I know several guys who have gone RJ FO to EMB Capt without ever flying the EMB as an FO. So far, they're 3 for 3 on passing the types first time out. It can absolutely be done.

In case anyone is interested in some of the other slots showing on the October final awards:

ATL CRJ700 Capt 10/99 DOH

ATL CRJ200 Capt 3/00 DOH

ATL ATR Capt 5/00 DOH

DFW CRJ200 Capt 4/00 DOH

Slots currently showing as "Newhire"

10 ATL CRJ700 FO

5 ATL ATR FO

5 DFW EMB FO

Good luck to everyone, welcome aboard to all the new hires.

Just wondering, does anybody know why we are hiring now? The lines, at least on the jet are crap (one leg then a day in the hotel, two legs then a day in the hotel, 5 legs and then go home....etc.). I know some of you won't like this, but shouldn't we stop adding more pilots until we get the lines up to at least 80 - 85 hours per month? Is anybody else sick of 70 hour lines with a lot of sitting around in the hotel?

I'm sure all of the unemployed pilots that frequent this board are just dying to listen to you b1tch and moan about your crappy lines.

While everyone's on the topic..
-How often does ASA shuffle seats? (i.e. is it in some kind of regular bid interval or just whenever it becomes necessary?)
-Will there be a secondary bid that follows?

Man, do I want that phone to ring. I can't fault you guys for wanting more block time, but that doesn't make me want a classdate any less.

Well, I feel bad for them, but we all paid some dues to get where we are. Those of us who are already employed have to look out for ourselves and our families, the airline industry isn't a welfare system, it's a job.

So, I will ask again, does anybody know why we (ASA) are doing all of this hiring when there does not seem to be enough flying available to keep those already on the payroll working efficiently?

Obviously a scheduling issue.... But we are really short on F/O's on all planes.. Just ask the Cpts who are flying right seat every night. Ask the reserve guys who are getting 80 hours a month. My buddy is getting 60 hours a month flying only naps! And interesting enough is the Oct prelims show 0 50 seater slots, and a lot of 70 seater slots..! Guys in the July class are getting lines in OCT on the EMB and ATR!

Bailout, I didn't realize we were short of FOs. I guess the schedules are just a result of incompetence or it's being done intentionally.

As for the 70 seater. I have heard that we are not taking any more this year. I have also heard that we are getting all of Comair's order. I could see hiring a lot now if we are actually going to get more 70's.

Gentlemen,

Just announced today;

40 a month new hires until further notice.

Add to that;

Fleetplane for Delta lists over 180 crj 700's for DCI.

That is nice, but where are the 180 CRJ-700's going? ASA and Comair, or somewhere else?

Oh, I wouldn't count on any of that happening. One thing I've learned about ASA- I'll believe it when I see it...

I keep forgetting !!

The Delta pilots run the company and not Leo.

How stupid of me !!!

Last month I talked to an F/O that used to work in recruiting. He said the pool was full and there would be no interviews for quite a while.

So these 40 new hires a month, are these people that were in the pool, or off the street?

What the heck is going on?

ASA hiring

I have heard the same thing about the pool being full, and they were finished interviewing untin Jan. 03

I wonder who exactly announced the 40/month deal

I know for a fact that Delta is starting a new "low cost carrier" to compete with Airtran, Southwest, and Jet Blue. Maybe it is all tied in, but the news i heard was that delta would convert the 757's to one class, nothing about using the RJ700, and they would start in the northeast markets, Delta Express is gone, and a new name will be announced.

Does anyone else know this to be true?

I did hear that Express would cease to exist and that all the 737-200 would be used to fill the gap between RJ-700 and the MD-88.Management wants an aircraft that seats around 110 passengers for some of those routes. I also heard that several (?) 757s would be converted to a single class configuration and placed on the Florida-Northeast routes in an attempt to compete with SWA & JetBlue.
