on the asa app im filling out right now it asks for trafic violations. I have had speeding tickets from almost 10 years ago and I cannot find anything on them. the app wants details, and I cant remember any. my ndr record says nothing, and my state recoreds say nothing. should i say no, or yes and anyhting i can remember?

Most states let violations drop off in so many years(usually its 7 years). I got a speeding ticket over eight years ago but it is not on my driving record. Investigate your state though...

You have to make sure you check the state record where you had the ticket. I went to the courthouse in my state and got a print out of my record for $15 all the way back from 1989. All my stuff is still on there, nothing dropped off at all. Your national NDR record only goes back 5 yrs. Hope this helps. I would tell them even if you can't find it. They seem to find it somehow.

ASA will not likely care that you have had a traffic ticket. They will care a lot if they find out later that you misrepresented the facts - and they do check. A couple of my friends have been through the wringer on that.

Everyone has something on their record. Just tell what you can remember, the fact it was so long ago makes it less relevant today.

BTW, how did you get the application? Did somebody walk your stuff in? I'm trying to get a good pilot on board and noticed a memo in Ops asking us not to walk resumes in because they are swamped. PM me if you would like.

Legal Advice - you get what you pay for

In general most states belong to the Nonresident Violator Compact of 1977. This means that speeding tickets received out of your home state will be reported back to your home state and included on your record for drivers license and insurance points. However there are certain states that do not put out of state traffic tickets on your record and others that will only enter speeding tickets that are over a certain mph above the speed limit. Kansas, Wyoming, Minnesota, Arizona, Iowa, and South Dakota will not put a speeding ticket on record unless it is 10 or more mph over the limit. Georgia will not enter speeding tickets unless they are more than 14 mph over the limit. New York and Colorado will not enter out of state speeding tickets at all unless they are serious violations like reckless. Michigan also has special rules about out of state tickets. You need to check with your own Department of Motor Vehicles to determine the regulations in your state...

OK now I am freaked out about this. I did the GA 7 year and it came back with two tickets, I put them on the ASA app. I also told the phone interviewer about those and the one on one interviewer about them. I know I have other tickets but that’s all I have history on.

The NDR says it is limited to suspensions and revocations for the last five years and you must give permission for them to do that check. So I am curious what other method they use to get dirt on you. Especially like sleepy said after you are hired.

Do you think I am safe?

I guess wannab0133, the app says LIST ANY so I would say something about your state record says you are clean for the last x years but you have had prior violations of unknown dates.

I listed all my violations going back to age 16, even if I couldn't remember the details. Put what you know about all of them. Don't try to skirt it. It will just be in the back of your mind during the interview and during your employment.

If your driving record in your state, and the NDR are clean, then nobody can prove you've ever had a ticket. Answer the question no. Just be sure the facts back you up by checking ahead of time.

Someone said "ASA will check". I beg to differ. They will perform the obligatory state and NDR record checks. They will not spend the time and money to conduct in depth checks on every pilot hired. Apply for a government job with a security clearance, yeah, they'll check this stuff. Airlines only do basic background checks to be sure that you are who you say you are, and thet your job history is good (PRIA). They will not hire a private investigator to ask around about you.

speeding tickets

How many tickets do most airlines draw the line with? Anyone hired with more than 3 speeding violations within 5 years?

How about a violation that was never put on your record? I was cited for something I didnt do, and when I went to court they basically told me if I paid the fine it would all go away and never touch my record. So I just paid it instead of having to miss school to come to court another day. It was worth the $88 just to be rid of the hassle. I have pulled my record from the PD and it is completely clean.

Would this be a situation where I would need to mention it?
