I'm not necessarily disagreeing with what is being said here about no recalls until next spring, I think that is a definite possibility and I don't want to give false hope, but I wouldn't rule out some fall recalls, regardless of what is being spread at the FO summits. Why? I spoke with someone in flt ops a few weeks ago, while they stopped short of saying there would be recalls in the fall, they did point to three things that might help get pilots back:

1) There were already about 6 pilots who had turned in their retirement paperwork for the summer. Granted, I think they can change their minds right up until the day they walk.

2) The projected block hours for the fall don't drop off like they have in previous years for the same time period. I hear they are pretty close to summer block hours. Couple this with #3.

3) Remember all those vacations and recurrents they pushed out of the summer to staff the airline? Well they didn't just get moved up. Some got pushed into the fall. Add that to the requirement of SEA ETOPS training.

All in all, there are some improving trends. A few little less publicized tidbits. We are now keeping one more -400 through the end of the year (113 to 114 airplanes in the latest investor update) and we are adding back some capacity. I just saw the are adding another daily SEA-LAX roundtrip in the fall. The fall schedule is not yet finalized either so we may see more flying.

I think the final straw will be to see how well their staffing plan for summer unfolds. If there is a total meltdown, I personally think your could see a knee-jerk reaction to bring people back in the fall.

Just my $.02, but what do I know, I am just a juvenile delinquent who is no longer in uniform!;)

Let me hold my breath and wait and see how many captains retire! Please they are slopping up the gravy!! Why would they? Great schedule, sick leave to burn, choice vacations......etc.........

Apparently, some of the ones who turned in their paperwork saw friends who were about their same vintage pass on. You could say they are reconsidering the "fly 'til you die" retirement program. But then again, like I said, they could change their mind and pull the plug on leaving right up until the day before they retire. The source is credible, I just don't want to print it here.

Does anyone know how much notice one needs to give at AS before retiring? I'm just curious if more might follow or if it will be too late to see anymore this summer.

During SLF checkairman said that it looks like they are going to be training PDX for ETOPS to. Wasn't sure if it was a short term item...or something that is just in the works for "the future." It only makes sense though...why have everybody at the airline trained for ETOPS except for a handlful in your smallest base. I actually think it makes more sense to train PDX first...then they'd be able to transfer the flying South sooner and have a bunch of reserves within an easy 45 minute deadhead of SEA if they needed it.

15 total reserves in ANC next month...With all the move days happening the first week...I don't think it's enough.

15 reserves in ANC for 69 lines is 21.7% coverage. I'm not disagreeing that it isn't enough. Is that below normal for ANC?

Take a look at the SEA base with 28 reserves and 309 lines. That is 9% coverage and woefully inadequate.

PDX has 45 lines and 19 reserves, 42% reserve coverage. Hmmmmm.
