We are getting new uniforms this spring. Black, double breasted, gold bars, and shirts with wings and name tags. I sure hope the hats are not coming back. Even more then that I hope I am not going to be required to pay for these new duds. And that Alaska is still the name of the company I am working for! When I took the survey this is not what I told them I wanted.

Sounds like a familiar uniform..........maybe I'll be going to Sitka soon! Ah Yeah BOOOOYYYYYY!

Shirts with wings and name tags sounds like a real PIA. What sort of backwards thinking was that?

Now I am completely sure you will be merging with Delta soon.
 
The Alaska/Delta merger is in the works. So how's this SLI going to work, again?


If it does happen at all, I bet the AK guys wish they would have done it before our NWA merger, rather than after. (or with NWA before the DL/NWA merger). Inserting pilots into the mix will have a greater ratio now obviously than before. Also, you have to look at career expectations, and the largest plane they have is a 739, which will be grouped into the 737 group most likely (not the 757/767 group). Put their top Captain in the top of the average 738 Captain seniority range (4000 from top maybe?), and then go down from there. If they have 1500 pilots (??), and we have 12,300 now (so 8300 to play with from the top 4000), then go downward at 1 for 5. I am sure it would be arbitrated if it happened, but that sounds about right. I would love to see Sitka.....

I had lunch the other day with a friends dad who is a A319 instructor. It's coming. SLI will be tough. Most guys over here do not want to give up the left coast flying.
 
VP FLT OPS... Where did he come from... oh yeah that explains why he like this uniform. I don't think it means we are merging with Delta. He just wants us to look more professional is what he said.

Did you here this from GB personally? I haven't seen any info on this or any other major change. Although I don't deny the possibility of a merger, obvious FI flame baiters aside, I don't believe anything in this industry until I see it. We have heard rumors of mergers with one company or another for the last 20 years and it hasn't happened. There is no question that DAL or CAL would love to merge with AS. They might actually turn a decent profit if they did.

Given the current economic and political climate, and the fact that DAL is "The Worlds Largest Airline" which brings up anti-trust issues, I don't see it happening. Now as far as the double-breasted submarine outfit, we might as well go all the way and bring back the white hat...think Pan Am, circa 1963. That would truly complete the ensemble.

DAL and AS have almost no route overlay. If the two managements decide to dance then it will happen.
 
So far no one in a position to buy or merge with AS except SWA, can match their cost structure. The immediate cost increase post merger could make currently competitive AS routes uncompetitive. Think AA-AirCal and Reno. I don't think we'll see a merger unless something changes.
