Typically you need a strong rec anyway so time is almost secondary, but they like to see the same things as any other outfit.

An AQ ground school can consist of pilots with 12,000 hrs TT & live combat fighter time sitting next to a turboprop FO with zero PIC time and barely 1500 TT.

1000 multi (there have been a few exceptions, but i dont think very many)
2 year degree, or 65 credits from accredited university (65 or around there)

most important: the internal rec from someone who has flown with you. if you dont have one, your quals wont matter too much.

I've only met a couple of pilots there through the Navy, never flown with them though. Any former Anderson Aviation types there?

This helps but it's not a show-stopper. I know guys that came from the mainland, had vacationed in HI once, knew no one and still got hired. You just never know.

I also know a guy that got hired at AQ because all he wanted was his unemployment box checked off for the week. He was furloughed HAL..

Yea, the stories you heard may be true, probably back when everybody was hiring and they were desperate for pilots. That's about the same time they dropped the type rating requirement. Dont get your hopes up high nowadays. Believe me the swinging dick pile of resumes doesn't get looked at too hard these days.
