Aloha Airlines Announces Daily Non-Stop Service Between San Diego and Maui, and Between San Diego and Reno
Tuesday October 5, 3:14 pm ET

HONOLULU, Oct. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Aloha Airlines today announced it is bringing its award-winning brand of flying at affordable air fares to San Diego. Beginning December 15, 2004, Aloha will provide San Diegans with the only year-round daily non-stop service between San Diego and Maui. In addition, Aloha will operate the only daily non-stop between San Diego and Reno/Tahoe International Airport.

AQ 475 will depart daily from Reno/Tahoe International Airport at 6:30 a.m., and arrive in San Diego at 7:56 a.m. The flight continues non-stop from San Diego International Airport, departing at 8:46 a.m. and arriving in Kahului, Maui at 12:40 p.m. On the return, AQ 476 will depart from Maui daily at 12:50 p.m. and arrive in San Diego at 7:49 p.m. The flight continues to Reno, departing at 8:39 p.m. and arriving at 10:16 p.m.

"We're excited to be able to expand the Aloha brand of service to this dynamic part of Southern California," said Brenda F. Cutwright, Aloha's acting President and Chief Executive Officer. "With these new routes, Aloha will bring its good price, convenience and great service to San Diego."

The new San Diego and Reno routes will be operated aboard next-generation Boeing 737-700 aircraft with 12 seats in First Class and 112 in Coach. Aloha has been serving Reno since July 2003 and currently offers the only direct service between Reno and Orange County. This winter, Aloha will operate three flights a day from Reno, non-stop to Burbank, Orange County and San Diego, and continuing on to either Honolulu or Maui.

Blah!!! I was hoping for SAN overnight... it's a 4-legger!

On the second thought... we're really establishing a presence in Reno.

Think Reno will be that mainland hub you've been wanting someday? ;)

Marketing

Let's hope this new service receives more marketing attention than just a press release......

So how are things over at AQ? Didn't someone mention the loss of the night cargo contract or am I making that up? Plus is there a threat of all inter-island flying being lost to WP through a long drawn out battle over scope?

Antho,

Next time you're down there, check the yellow pages for us and report back on whether Aloha is listed in it.

Shoots brah.. you go tell your auntie we fly San Diego now, yah? Good advertising, yah? TV too expensive, brah! No can!

Should be a nice overnight in Reno during the winter - talk about contrasts. Go from freezing to the surf in 10 hours...

I don't think so. From what I hear WP loads have been low. Talked with a pilot there who said he flew 8 legs the other day and 2 were empty.

Does this mean WP has now reached their full potential?

So, whats the news with AQ? I have heard that there is a class in Nov, and its been supersized. Are they gonna keep hiring?

supersized? by how many? i have been out of the loop lately, but the last i heard the class is going to be 10. up from the 6-9 that was buzzing around before my departure of "the loop". are there 'posed to be more?

Yep, the word is the new-hire class is 10.
Also heard they are planning some interviews.
Not sure why, one rumors was that they don't have enough in the pool to cover the 10 for the class. Guess we will hear soon. Nov is coming up quick.

To add fuel to the fire...

A relative of someone in flight ops told a relative of mine (they work together, turns out) that we will be hiring 100 pilots next year.

Yeah, I know, it sounds like my hairdresser's dog told my cat's groomer kind of story.

Where would this come from? I thought there were no more -700s on order?

Must be hiring to fill all those 717 cockpits.

Sounds like they're having trouble filling the Nov 1 class as they're still interviewing for it this week according to some good sources.

Wait, if they sell cargo, those guys will go to the -200 or -700, right? What's the need for another 100 guys on top of those, unless they're going to double their fleet.

Something fishy going on Ke'ehi lagoon. According to English's cat's groomer.

No, they are not having trouble filling the class. It was just originally planned for 6 to 8 people, and now they've up'd it. Not enough poolies left over from the summer, so there's a need to interview.
