Hey guys, what are the chances of getting called for an interview with a regional with those times? I am Instrument current and have a first class medical. Does anyone have any first hand experiences interviewing with very low hours?

Apply and see, applying never hurts and I heard a rumor of a guy in class at a particular airline with a total of 14hrs of multi. I didn't hear what his/her total time was but 14 multi is nuts I tell ya.

Hi!

I'd say your chancese of getting hired at multiple regionals is 99.9%.

Go for it!

Go PDT just to get your time up to 500 if you need to. Did you grad from a 4 year school? We need ppl so I'm sure the mins listed on the site aren't accurate and competitive is prob less than req'd.

Boy! This is not like it was when I started this junk just 6 years ago. I had to instruct for 3 years before I could get a call for anywhere. I just sat on furlough for 8 months with hardly a peep for the first 7. I guess they were afraid of me jumping ship early having more than the 500 TT guy.

From the sounds of it 500 TT is almost a sure thing to get a job at a hand full of airlines now. 350 ish is still kinda low. You could always try Lakes or something they used to hire at 250 hours.

It's only going to get worse. The majority of the international airlines are hiring with those times. Granted, most of those are cadet pilots, but that's still low times to get into the right seat of a jumbo. I talked with an Alteon instructor for Air France the other day. He just finished training a 300 hour FO for Air France on the 777.

Point being, apply, you never know. Long gone are the days of 3 years in the C150 and C172 just trying to get to a 1900 job.

Great Lakes, Colgan, Big Sky, Mesa, Pinnacle, Commutair, Piedmont, Mesaba, Express Jet, Skyway and Trans States. All these regionals have lowered their mins and you are certainly in the ball park with anny other candiate. Skywest, Republic, and Horizon you will need closer to 800 or so. Granted if that airline is taking apps. Anyone that tells you you cant get in with a certain time if just pissed becuase when they got in it was 1500 and 300 probally. Alot is who helps you out. If you know someone or are someone special exceptions are always made. Mesa takes them at 250, granted they are from a "Special" program, but its not all that. Throw apps out everywhere. And of course some jakass will reply and tear this all apart. Just mail them out.

Hey I appreciate the kind responses guys. I will fill out the airlineapps app and send it out to all the regionals listed above. I used to work at Ford in a stamping plant just months ago. I took a buyout package they offered and now I am unemployed. I got my private back in 97 and just got all the rest of my ratings a year ago. Anyway, thanks again for all the replies. I am really looking forward to starting this process!

I can tell you this much: there are definitely airlines that would hire you with your time. I can also tell you that there were people in my new hire class at Trans States with as little as 300TT and about 20ME. They will hire people with very low time. As for Expressjet (my current employer) they will not take people with less than 600TT and 100ME. Period. You may hear otherwise, but I was just speaking to my friend who works in the HR (the guy who calls/emails with interview invitations) department last night about this. So... you could say that its about as reliable info as one can get. XJT interns are the only exception. They only need 500TT and 100ME. From what I hear, Pinnacle and ASA are also hiring low timers as well, although I cannot offer firsthand knowledge of these companies. Hope that helps! Good Luck!

Apply at every regional out there! Update often, and try to get some frasca 142 sim time! Take advantage of the fact that the regionals are hiring low time pilots now!!! Good luck!!!

Express Jet dosen't seem to hire people with 1800 TT and 1000 Multi either. I applied there three months ago, and I know people there and not even a peep. Thats okay though because like everybody else has said, pretty much everyone else is hiring and just require a semblance of a pulse.

Noone at Air France is put in the 777 with 300 hours, the starting aircraft is the A319 320 in which they do put guys with that kind of time.

they stay a minimum of 6 years as FO on the small bus then they can choose to move as FO on the wide body.

just wanted to clarify.

i didnt get a call back from coex either with way over their mins

Anybody know if applying with hours below the posted mins requires being part of a bridge program from a larger flight school? Or do you have to know somebody at the airline? And... if you aren't from a larger school and you don't know anybody... will your app. get tossed if you don't have the absolute minimums?

I know Skywest is very strict about only taking on guys with the posted minimums, and because of this (in part) I will likely be one of the first from my flight school to not go there.

I heard from just a few people that they don't like it if you have a second job while you're building your time. Anyone else heard that?

What about a guy who is in the, say, 1000/50 ballpark? Will the extra 400 or so total make up for the missing 50 multi?

Edit: That guy is me, and I'll likely have around 1100/75 when I'm ready to apply.

Apply now if you want a job. I've got a friend with your exact times and he just got hired by Mesa, they may not be the best one out there but he also got a call from ASA so it never hurts to apply.

Thanks, good to know. I probably won't be applying until early may because if I left now I'd leave my flight school in a bit of a bind. And it probably won't be to Mesa or ASA (reasons of which I won't get into), but it's good to know that there are guys with similar times getting interviews.

You could also try Comair, you are well within the hour range of just about all of the new hires I've spoken to.

If you're going to Comair, you could still apply now just to get the ball rolling. When you get hired, they let you choose your class date. Classes are starting every week, so just pick a later class date that will not screw over your current flight school.

Are they still doing all the sims in CVG? I had heard rumors (well, from a friend who's on IOE right now) that they were shipping guys out because there wasn't enough time open for all the new hires.
