zwinner, et al,
Thanks for the information. It is appreciated, especially given the anxiety level.
SWABound, no worries....looks like we were saying the same thing, yet a bit differently.

I think the clock starts when you get told by the PD to go do it, not when the CP says to call the PD. If that makes sense.

Thanks,HG. That's sort of my point about notification. I think there may be a difference between being notified of passing the DB, vs being notified by PD to do the drug test. I can't imagine that the clock starts ticking when the CP calls, but I think it probably starts upon being told to consent to the test by the PD. But...that's just a guess, and I could be very wrong. I hope that's true for the sake of those still waiting for the call.

I don't think that the "wiz quiz" has a formal time frame to be completed within. When I was called (most thankfully) I was told not to worry, and that I had some flexibility as far as taking the test. There was no mention of a time frame that "it" had to be completed within. The PD was more than flexible to work with my sched. for what its worth. Good luck to all!!!!!!!!!

56Olds,
I haven't heard anything from anyone about calls today. That said, 4 of the guys in my interview group were called last week, so my resources probably have nothing to report.

Well, I officially dislike the USPS. Got the dreaded letter today...."thanks for your interest....highly competitive environment....etc, etc". Not really sure what else the letter said. Strike one.
I am still very sure, however, that I want to work at SWA. I will be back! It is a tremendous company with a fantastic culture that I'd like to be a part of someday.
Said the preacher to the choir: I'm still not sure what caused me to auger in...that's the only thing that's bugging me.
Anyhow, best of luck to all who are currently in the process of trying to become part of SWA!

Classy post, Walden. I'm confident you'll make it next time with such an upbeat attitude. Best of luck to you!

Got the Letter,Bummer

Hello,All Got the letter instead of the call. So I'll keep my chin up and try again next year. Big Time Congrats yo all who got the call.

Any estimates on how many people who have their references called don't make it past the DB? Is it correct that if your references are contacted, your odds have greatly increased?

Impatiently waiting the March DB.

CU

Capt,
Most all of my refs were called, yet I swung and missed. Not sure there's any percentage or hard number of cases of my type. I know of only one other guy who had refs checked and got the letter.
I can't figure it out. That's not stopping the squirrel on the wheel of my brain however.
Peace and best of luck on your DB.

Walden,

Did you have solid references that you could count on without a shadow of a doubt? Most everyone I know who got hired only had 3 references called. I made sure I spoke with each one of my 9 references the week before my interview.

Also, do you have plenty of time in the last 36 months. If not then definitely start racking up more time.

Just trying to help so you are hired the next time around.

Congrats to all who got the call. I hope you cherish this life changing event and, as Pedro says, "all your dreams come true".

To those who were not so lucky, I feel your pain, the letter was a true disappointment.

I would like to recognize those who offered so much advice and support, Chase, Mark at HPA, and especially those who put in a good word for me, you know who you are. Thank you!

Viva la SWA and KEEP THE FAITH!

A friend of mine interviewed in Feb, within 4 days one of his references were called. 3 days later another, then his current chief pilot was called and he wasn't even a reference he used, just his current boss. Any idea what this means?? Is it to early to be concerned if the interview was in Feb.? I'd like to pass on some news to him. Thanks for any info

Walden,

Thanks for the words. Your attitude speaks volumes about your character.

From an outside perspective, my suggestion is to really analyze your references again and make sure the ones you use can really articulate your best qualities. It sounds like the other pieces were in place so don't spend too much time changing the other parts of the puzzle. Best of luck.

TheXmanz,

Two of my references were asked about another guy from our company who also interviewed with SWA. This was not one of his references but the PD checked to see if either of them knew this person. Seems like they may do some cross checking.

Just so I can wrap this up and move onward and upward:
I had 6 LORs; 4 from rock solid SWA pilots and friends.
I had 13 online recs from friends and squadron mates; again rock solid
4 of 6 references were called; all reported a positive, upbeat reaction from the caller
My time for last 36 months was 800+ hours.
I used interview prep.
I felt the interview day went really well.
**DISCLAIMER**
I'm not providing these details to show how great I am and how schtoopid SWA is for not hiring me! Please don't read it that way. These are merely some of the questions folks are asking. I must admit that I don't really know what the discriminator was and that, my fellow job-seekers, is really the toughest nut to crack.
Each and every one of us are individual cases, so really you can't read anything in to anyone else's unique situation. My fondest good wishes go out to all who are currently in the system!
