Union solidarity issues get some folks around here pretty heated up. Well, being a GA flyer, one thing that heats me up is pilots not sticking together and being an AOPA member.

It costs $39/yr. About a half-hours rent for the average light GA plane. The benefits are pretty good, but the most important thing is the one strong voice in Congress and with other legislative groups.

Don't be a parasite on the system. Put something back in to protect it for us all. The people in authority around this country pretty much all respond the same to the citizens they direct. If they can divide and separate - it's much easier for them to push their agenda through. If we are united in opposing them, we'll stand a much better chance of protecting our rights from the continuous onslaught of rules and restrictions.

Stick together. Join AOPA.

Already a member!
Great way to spread the word though (and they have a great message board also!)

AOPA membership is a must for all pilots and patriots.
Get you non-pilot friends that are interested in aviaton to join.
Buy a membership for a bright young person as a gift.

Fightin' the TSA, fightin' the FAA on our behalf and all for 39 bucks! Not to mention a great rag to read on layovers! Member since 1987....

Being a member also gets you discounts at Hertz, Avis, ALamo and I have heard that A.I.G Insurance is offering a 5% discount on aircraft insurance to AOPA members. I have been a member since 1991 and have not regretted a single minute.

Finally agreement

Finally a post that everyone seems to agree on, been a member since 1978, great people, and you don't need a 4 yr degree to be a member, sorry I could not resist

Just renewed today. Thanks for the reminder flywithastick.

Member since 01 (the year I started training)

AOPA

Boyer is great IMO. ( Anyone know what he flys? ) These guys have the best website too. The TFRs are online for visual reference before you can dial 1800WXBRIEF. They've got a great airport directory for members. Informative articles online and in the mag. The Airport Support Network has done wonders for keeping many small airports from getting the shaft. They have a good Q&A phone staff that I've used a few times. I've been to one of their Air Saftey Seminars, open to anyone, it was decent but I'll go to another to give it another chance. When it comes to town, I'll get my wife to the Pinch Hitter course.

When I was training, I called AOPA to try to get their flight training magazine, free to all student pilots for a 6-month period. Unfortunately I never received a copy. After I got the PPL, I joined and immediately began getting the standard issues.

They also put together a great website to educate non-pilots about GA in the US. If you haven't seen it, check it out. It's pretty basic stuff.

I agree 100%. Been a member for twenty years, even though I'm not flying.

It was worth it when I called a year ago for advice when I went to get my medical.

I agree it is a fantastic organization; great tour also if you make it up to their headquarters at FDK (ask for Gretchen. . . ).

But am I a parasite just because I've let my membership lapse in a painfully lean time as a CFI? Am I a parasite CFI by not being a member of NAFI?

Aww screw it, you've convinced me to renew.

P.S., I saw Boyer fly out of there in the cockpit of our AOPA Citation jet. Super nice guy, probably off to help save aviation again!

Legal Plan

Has actually anybody used the AOPA legal plan?

AOPA member since 1976.

It is one of the strongest GA voices out there. Also have been a member of EAA, another fine aviation organization. You should belong to both because they are in the thick of things when the FAA and Gov’t try to hold GA down with ridicules regulations. We might be like the European flight scene if it were not for these two organizations. Check out their web sites: www.AOPA.org and www.EAA.org .
