I sub at the neighborhood school, only 1 day (maybe 2) and it is kinda fun, the pay is 90 a day, 7 hours, babysitting juniorhypers, look online for your school district

Find something OUTSIDE of aviation to diversify your earning capability. Too many pilots only know how to fly an airplane. Most are lucky, but some lose their medical, and some get furloughed/fired and may go months or years without employement. Diversify your ability to earn money, period.

Wise advice!

Pilotpat, maybe I read the contract wrong but on the reserve schedule, you only have four immovable days off, with the rest of your monthly schedule up in the air. You don't sit by the pager all day but your days off can be moved around to accomodate trips.

There is more to the story. Max tour length is 7 days with severe pennalties if you get home a day late. New LOA hot off the press doesn't argue the one or two day point anymore. Always two extended days pay-that's three days at daily rate-and time off your next tour if home after 1200 local.

Seven day tour guarantees no less than four off, and lessor tours guarantee no less than three off. Combined with strategic placement of hard days, I see less than the 18 day max work month-usually. I much prefer the reserve schedule, as do others I know that exceed ten years in the company.

Pervis, my thoughts exactly on the reserve schedule. Heck, my wife says she just likes the idea of a schedule and someone (Union) to back the pilots up! Fingers crossed the app goes out tomorrow...

I started an online Travel web site as a plan "B". it is the coolest gig ever to not only have a killer second income but also get your mind OFF the flying for a while.
I beg all of you to take a look at it and see what you think. NO inventory and great perks on travel. oh and don't forget the always needed home biz tax breaks.

I have worked as a aviation career and interview counselor. I've also done the substitute teaching (which was the hardest job I ever had).

Some guys also do contract flying on their days off. I think you can hire yourself out on climbto350.com or some of the other sites.

Nothing pays as good as picking up an overtime day at my main job.
