Hello all who interviewed with Hawaiian this summer! Has anybody received any form of letter via mail or e-mail saying "No thanks"?

There's a bunch of us who interviewed in July and made it through Phase I and got to phase II, but haven't heard a peep. Just wondering if anyone who interviewed even just phase I, was given any sort of NO response???????

Mahalo,

i have done phase 2 as well and interviewed again back in that first group in july (also interviewed last year)....haven't heard anything...but.....from what i have been told, phase 2 means you are in the pool so to speak....everything you did in the interview gets a point system to it....they tally up your points and rank you....from there they just start at the top and go down the list....so i have heard....and they will not be sending any notice to say no thanks.....you either hear or you don't.....good stuff....

I have a friend in class right now. He started class less than 3 weeks after his first interview. If you haven't heard anything, it's probably not good.

Not true at all. What 808 pilot says is pretty much what I've heard from a fellow pilot on the interviewing panel. Essentially they are creating a pool (or maybe more like a ocean) to draw from. The Oct class has been selected but the Nov one has not been selected yet. There will be more next year selected from the folks they have interviewed this year.
It's been unbelievably competitive and so they can be highly selective....

Cool avatar Baja, where is that?? San Francisquito??

I had an informal discussion with the CP on this subject last week; he said that if you haven't heard from the company you are still in the pool. He said that some rejections letters have been sent out, but he didn't know how many. The problem is that they have only been authorized to hire for the 35 currently open positions, yet they know they'll need more within the next few months. So instead of just doing a few at a time, HR decided to create a larger pool from which they can continue the hiring next year (and the year after that, etc) without having to crank up the interview/sim/test process every few months. I mentioned that I didn't know of any other airline that goes about it this way, and he agreed, saying that HR is running the process and the flight department doesn't have that much say in 'how' the process is run, just in 'who' gets the final call. So honestly no news is good news - you're still in the pool. Also - he mentioned that for these first few classes the people they've been selecting have tended toward high total flight times - in the 7k to 10k totals. That doesn't mean that if you have less you won't get a call, but rather that it won't be immediate, and you'll have to swim in the pool a bit longer. I'd expect another bid for another 35+ to be out by early next year. If you're swimming, I am really sorry about how HA has handled the process, especially not letting you know where you stand. But again, if you haven't heard from HR yet, you still have a shot.

The kid I know has less than 2k total with the majority of that in the right seat of a regional jet. I don't buy that 7k-10k comment a few posts ago. It's who you know. If you haven't interviewed and don't know anyone, don't expect a call. I don't work for Hawaiian so take my comments with a grain of salt.

I do work for HA and as I said in my last post, these words came directly from the Chief Pilot, who is one of three with the final word on who gets hired.

It's possible the person you're talking about has less than 2k hours, but VERY unlikely. If he was hired with those totals there must be some other reason he's here. Was his father a pilot here? That's about the only reason I can think of for someone with that little experience to be hired.

Yes, who you know will get you in the door for an interview, but even in that group it's extraordinarily competitive. Without some fat logbooks, I doubt you're getting that final call.

So Hal, from what you're saying, the CP and the other two management pilots that I met in my last "meet and greet" interview, are the ones making the final call.

I'm not positive, but I think it's the two CP's and the VP of flight ops that make the decisions. And I think those were the three you saw at the 'meet & greet'.

I know of a group of 25 that had second interviews in Early August then a group of 37 did a 2nd a week later mid August. Obviously last years group that got called for another 1st and a meet and greet are in that mix as well. Don't know how many other 2nd inerviews have happened since mid August.
