Did a drop there about a year ago in a GIV. We dropped the pax (I guess there is a fancy resort plantation nearby) and then repositoned to KAHN (Athens, GA) I HIGHLY recommend Athens - had a great time there. If you are going to be there for a few days, it might be worth leaving the jet in 3J7 and driving/staying in Athens. Enjoy...........

Oh - If I remember 3J7 is uncontrolled with a shortish runway. I don't remember if there was an approach or not..

I've been there.... small airport, nice folks, expect no real services. The town offers little unless you are at the resort. There is an instrument approach GPS I think. It was good enough for the Air Force to fly the President there for a big fundraiser before the election so you should be fine.

Man-O-Man I hope you're not going to RON....if you're going to be there much more than a day I'd recommend getting a car and driving either to Athens or ATL. We stayed there for 4 nights a few years ago for Conquistador's and it was a nightmare....of course it was in the middle of the summer but the airport was a f'n beehive and the FBO just couldn't keep up. The service was painfully slow everywhere you went. I cringe at the sight of a Church's chicken cause that's about the excitement there. If you can get the boss to spring for rooms at the resort then great...otherwise run Forrest run!

yeah been there a bunch...the one runway is around 5000..maybe a little more.. has a localizer and gps approaches, they may be working on a glidslope but not sure. not much around greensboro..everybody you fly in probably goes to Reynolds Plantation on the lake. drive up to Athens and stay at the holiday inn closest to downtown, the folks at the athens airport will know which one if you call them. it's about a 45 minute drive from greensboro to athens or if you're lucky repo..athens is awesome, a bar for every type and plenty to eat around downtown. wish i was still there.... oh yeah, there is a ritz-carlton on the lake in reynolds..you could try that.

Thanks Chocks.....Were trying to drop and leave it in ATH, but so far, resistance...Doing a rain dance now, so 3J7 isnt an option....

Athens is serious college town. We stayed at the Courtyard there...can walk anywhere you want to go. There is a great bar downtown that grills the best cheeseburgers you have had in your life at midnight...

I also did a drop in there a couple years ago in a GIV. At the time, the approaches were Cat A&B only, although I think that has been updated. If the annual CEO-Confab is going on at the nearby golf resort, don't expect to park without reservations. There's no parallel taxiway, so heavy GA aircraft have to inevitably taxi back (although I did witness a GEX make the first turn off, approx 2500' down the 5000' runway). I think the airport diagram (Jepp 11-1) is not correct. There should be two access taxiways to the ramp. If the ramp is full, there will be an entry to the ramp and an exit. If the ramp is full, be sure to ask for guidance from the FBO so that you don't try going in through the out-door.

too bad its not in the fall, you could go up to AHN and watch the Dawgs get theirs handed to 'em. The best thing to come out of athens in a long time is Highway 316.

We are there all the time. I would say Athens is the best bet, though staying at the Ritz is a nice experience if there is room. (Lately it has been all booked due to the N.O. LA Ritz sending all their meetings there). If you want somethign to do night life wise, you ahve to go to Athens or Atlanta. There are a number of good restaurants down US 44 towards Eatonton, but no reala night life.

If you want to avoid 3J7, plan an early morning arrival, the fog takes some time to burn off, and you will have to go to AHN, which has an ILS.

It's just a small country airport with no real services, but friendly southern people to help in any way they can. Has or had a LOC approach and appr 5,000 runway. It's several miles from Atlanta or Athens. Not much to do there, but sometimes we must go to places like this to earn our money. It's all part of what we do for a living.

That bar is Boar's Head...and yeah they are good burgers....there are many plays on the name of the bar, many of them earned. Athens is a great college town and if you go you've got to go downtown.
