Anybody sick on MAY 31/JUNE 1/2

The replies in this thread go to show why pilots make 1/3 of what they did in the 1980's. We are truly gutless. And we make up the unions, and the unions are gutless.

Everyone other than pilots and mechanics in this business is a glorified water boy. No offense, but without pilots and mechanics, NOTHING moves.

They have one day strikes in Europe all the time, just to demonstrate how much the public is screwed when the transit workers don't show up. The public respects them for it.

And judging by how many folks were walking across the brooklyn bridge in the freezing cold when the transit workers struck illegally there, there is NO DOUBT a national sickout would send a message that our pensions, benefits, pay, and quality of life will no longer fund 1970's ticket prices and immoral management practices.

MY GOD WHEN WILL THIS INDUSTRY GROW SOME BALLS AGAIN!!!!??

Seriously...why even respond to the thread if you don't want to see WHAT CAN HAPPEN...are you happy with your pay and schedule...then dont reply to the thread. IF you think it can be better...then I would like your support. I expect a whole bunch of you to write how stupid you think this is, but we ultimately will never find out without support from the QUALIFIED PILOTS that we are. I know if we do all call out the CEO's, Mechanics, Gate Agents, Gum Removers, Pushback Crew, etc...won't be there to take that flight out. Once again, a failed attempt to try to get fellow pilots to see what COULD HAPPEN. We will all be lucky to have jobs in a few months anyway...Gas expected to be at $4.00 a gallon by mid June.

Thanks again to all that think it would be great to see what COULD HAPPEN.

While I don't disagree that pilots these days don't get the pay, benefits and treatment they deserve I strongly believe that there are other ways to get the point across. Staging a sick-out and/or other similar actions will do nothing but pi$$ off those in charge. Airline management will definitely react negatively to childish acts of operational interruptions.

What at this point can management do to all of us when we are all going to lose our jobs in a year anyway from rising gas prices, mergers that eliminate the little guys that support the majors and age 65 that stagnated the industry. INSIDER if you are comfortable where you are then you are probably in the majors or just don't care that our profession has been belittled to nothing here in the US or your regional is not in HARMS WAY at the moment but would love to know which one that might be. I have never come on here to claim I AM ALL KNOWING OR I AM THE HEART OF THE AIRLINE OPERATION...but WHO will take that stand...and if you really think that management CARES ABOUT US...you haven't been furloughed or just gave up.
Going forward, I would gladly lose my job in a last ditch effort to make something happen in this industry. I don't like how you can get a flight now for less than you can pay a cab to take you to the airport...something just doesn't seem right about that. ONCE AGAIN, I WILL SEE PEOPLE REPLY TO THIS THAT HAVE THEIR NEGATIVE OPINIONS ON THIS, but at what point do you say I DON'T CARE WHAT MANAGEMENT THINKS...ALPA IS ASKING FOR MORE MONEY NOW TOO...DO WE BEND OVER FOR THAT NOW TOO WHEN THEY ARE SPENDING 10'S OF THOUSANDS ON STEAK DINNERS AND ALCOHOL TO TRY TO KEEP USAIR AT ALPA...Looks like everyone at the TOP of their respective company's and associations are doing pretty well.

Well, unlike yourself...I have been looking for a backup plan if things take a dive in the next few months. I have a background in Medical Sales that I can fall back on...hopefully YOU didn't just go to ATP or Gulfstream and pay for all those ratings. I like most have a college degree to fall back on...so unemployment paychecks are what I might get for a while, but an unemployment line I will not be standing in my friend. Airline pay is a joke and a travesty, and the schedules are a mockery of the credentials and testing we tried so hard to attain...once again...where is your pride and everyone that doubts this effort????

They certainly won't work for professional, airline pilots.

Please understand that they way a system is changed is from working WITHIN the system. Working from outside the system in, just simply doesn't, can't and won't work.

I propose a National Year of Just Doing Your Own Damned Job, i.e., safely transporting your passengers and freight to their destination in compliance with the Code of Federal Regulations.

You want to send a message? The best message we could send, and it would be 100% legal, would be to strictly put the safety of our pax/freight first in all our considerations, and strictly comply with the regs.

It's been said a thousand times: we are our own worst enemy because we can't help ourselves in trying to grease the skids of whatever operation we work for.

We're not having much success making more, but we still keep trying hard.

No you smart a** SOB I was defending my nation in the MILITARY as a pilot and it just made sense to transition to the civilian side of the house. Now I see why everyone told me not to do it because the close-knit community like it is in the MILITARY just doesn't translate to the AIRLINES...people like you are the reason we roll over on low wages, and the rest that think we are gonna piss off management and they are gonna close the doors on us...OH WELL...guess they will be searching for a new job then too.

You are a very angry person! I believe that your hatred towards your superiors (airline management) borders paranoia or some other mental disorder. It may be a good idea to call in sick in order to protect the passengers.

When I started at Comair I made $11,00 a year. My CEO made $5 mill a year. To put in in perspective when he came to work at 9am on Jan 1, by lunch time on the same day he had made my yearly salary! By any standards, thats just not right.

I don't disagree that the wages are too low. I disagree that calling in sick to try to get your will is inefficient and plain childish. You mention that he is delivering my customers safely? That's my whole point: They are not "my" customers but his too. Take ownership and don't cut of the flow of revenue by calling in sick. On the other hand, I seriously believe that Mentor is so angry that his judgment is clouded. He should consider talking to someone about it.

JAL, which has been overhauling its cost structure to tackle soaring fuel prices and other pressure on its earnings, is in talks with labour unions and aims to implement the cut from October, spokesman Atsushi Abe said.
The airline implemented an across-the-board 10 percent pay cut for two years from 2006/07 as it sought to get back to profitability.

I wonder how much that CEO took for a cut? Looks like its starting to hurt globally and taking it out on the pilot groups is where management finds it easy to place blame and penalize for MANAGEMENTS MISTAKES....Give me 60 days everyone(somebody big is gonna fold). Gas at these prices will make operations seize overnight. Tick tock...

Ownership of generating profit. Airline doesn't make money = you don't make money. Why take with your other innocent airline employees as you intend to teach'em (management) a lesson and show how powerful you are. I still think a national sick-out day is immature and childish and I bet that any responsible pilot and union official feels the same way.

Btw, if you can't handle a response to your ideas aired on a public forum.....
