This is just my opinion, but I think there is a strong possibility of an August class. Also, the June load factor I believe is stronger than expected; if that continues there could be more classes later in the year.
I noticed that you found the edit button..Well done..
Nothing new to report..Still one class penciled in for August but with as many gates as we are getting and the economic upturn plus the loads getting better...I can see us taking a few extras near the end of the year..
I am really..really pumped up about 2004..If HALF the stuff i keep hearing about happens we are gonna grow like gangbusters..
While in MDW earlier this month, one of the assistant chief pilots said there will be a class in August. Since I started flying in mid-May, most of the flights have been full. I'm surprised SWA is talking about only one August class. This is a great place to work. I hope everyone in the pool gets a call soon. Best wishes to all.
on the rumor for the Aug class..... they are monitoring the return of the guard/reserve guys & gals to see what impact this will have on pilot scheduling going forward.
And YES, this place is well worth the wait..... a very different position now from the inside looking back into the Pool on FI.... hang in there guys & gals.... lots of good thoughts concerning 2004 - could be a BIG year for hiring/interviewing/growth..... can't WAIT for classes to start and push us bottom feeders out of the OAK base, hurry up!!!!
Have a great summer - before you know it you will be in DAL for 6 weeks of training and hotel food!!!
Thanks to everyone who was/is/shall be in the SWA Pool....
Now that I am dry/trained/IOE'd and now a real SWA F/O I think it is time to put Tred to rest... so to speak.....
My new alter ego is in use and I will continue to support all those who are to follow - and get me OFF reserve - with any and all SWA info that I hear......
Good luck, hang in there, trust me, this job is well worth the wait - just an awesome company to be a part of!!!
Thank you mike, bake, tred, flying and sentryIP for the encouragement and info. I know you all are busy, but please fill us in with any hiring rumors/facts as they come in. We in the pool are just about as waterlogged as it gets.
By the way, I am curious... who has been in the pool the longest so far? And what month & year will the last of the original 360 poolies go to class?
I hate to be a bear of bad news. But the last rumors I heard was there is no more classes for this year.
I was sitting during dibriefing of the chief pilot in MDW.
But there is always hope it will happened.
Well, we've got at least a 50-50 shot. Let's hope for the best. Here's a smily face, a grin, and a wink for good luck) ) to beat out the frown face( ).
Delurry,
No sweat. We poolies have pretty much accepted the official party line of no more classes in 03. Since SWA has already trained 148 of the planned 140 for this year. That is the party line and that is what is being officially stated. If you called up LL right now she would give you the same "brief". As usual it just depends on who you talk to.
I am assuming SWA is counting on all the military guys to return in the near future. This would negate the need for any new classes for the fall. Just like last year.
In any case, lets hope SWA is satisfied with 2nd quarters performance , decides to loosen the belt just a little and bring on some more planes and routes for the second half of the year. Hey, it could happen.
A buddy of mine attended the air inc conference this past weekend. He was told by Rebekah (flight ops recruiting team), that SWA plans to have the pool drained by early next year 04, with classes beginning this August. Additionally, SWA expects to begin interviewing again in Jan 04. I would like to reiterate this is second hand info, but that I trust that the conversation between my buddy and rebekah was relayed accurately. Did anyone else hear anything similar?
I spoke to SWA at Air Inc yesterday. They basically did state that interviewing they hoped interviewong would begin in early '04. That right now they are being very cautious.
Finished IOE in early June.
This is by far the best job i have ever had...well worth the wait.
Don't know about the short term; maybe 1 class in Aug.(?).
But for the long run, we are looking at a major expension that should make all the poolies pretty senior in a hurry.
It's hard to be waiting but we are all lucky to be part of the best company in the world.
LUV going to work!!! So happy can't even see straight. . Talk about a challenge on landings.
Can't wait to see you guys on the line. We are keeping a warm seat for you.
