Ameristar - current info on conditions etc

Ameristar is what you make of it!!! The planes are old and the schedule isnt the greatest. The pay is alot better than the regionals and the upgrade time is 12-18months depending on your exp. and work ethic. The majority of pilots here are alot of fun to fly with which helps make the schedule easier to deal with. If your looking to bypass the regionals and fly jets then i would recommend AJI to you. If your looking to fly new planes and hardly work then this is not the place for you!!!!

Info on 737s and DC9s?

Is it true that Ameristar will hire directly into the 737 or the DC9? Or are those FO positions reserved for the Falcon/Lear guys? Do you need a 737 or DC9 type rating to be considered for those positions?

Anyone got any info on QOL, schedules and rough starting pay on the 737/DC9? I saw one of their DC9s a week ago or so and I think it was a former TWA aircraft.

Yes, we hire directly to the 121 side but most recently on the DC9. They try and give the 135 side preference but they are running short on the 135 side so..
You don't need the 73 or 9 experience but a big help is 121 experience.

QOL is better than regionals in my experience but I wouldn't make plans on doing anything on an overnite. Pay well let me put it this way I turned down a Vegas based carrier. Schedule is 9-9. Great but small pilot group, wide range of experience. Biggest plus for me is the size of the company; I prefer a small close knit type atmosphere. I am a bit odd in that respect.

Our teacher who is an assitant chief definetly knew his sheit. You would think that is not enough sims but everyone in our class did well in the sim after the first try. Then we waited around to do our bounces a couple days and then a week and a half to move. One of our guys got ADS, I chose to go to YIP cause I'm closer to home. The others are all up in YIP as well. Chiefs are great guys and things are going well. I like the company and definetly it was a step up from where I was. I need that PIC jet time. Your not going to get anywhere in the industry without it. So you might as well choose a company that you know your gonna upgrade at as long as everything goes well and put your time in. The Falcon is a 28,660 lb Max. gross wt. aircraft and that is excellent I think for the resume. We did our training at FSI with all EFIS stuff which was nice. Now just gotta get used to the steam gauges.

Are they hiring FO's? If so, what are the mins. Didn't see anything on the website. It only listed flight attendant jobs. Thanks
 
There is a class starting in a few weeks, but i think its full. Not sure if they need more pilots for any future classes.

Just heard today that the class has been postponed for 30 days.
 
I'm supposed to be in that class that starts on the 21st. I was faxing all my paperwork to HR, called to make sure they received the fax and CP told me class postponed until mid Sept. My buddy is back in ADS for the Lear and he said it's probably due to the Alaska oil pipeline that is shut down raising fuel prices making AJI is very slow right now. I'll wait for this class as long as it takes because i'm NOT going to a regional!!!

I want to work there. This place sounds great. No really its great for experience. Who ever works there seems to move on to bigger and better things.

Plus you'll love flying lears and I heard falcons are great too. I loved the lear, still do. Miss the climb rate on a cold day the most.

the lear has 6 (pinky finger size) bolts connecting the wings to the fuselage.

the falcon has 84 bolts connecting the wings to the fuselage.

Dang, that sounds like an a$$hole interview question to me. If someone asks you that in an interview, slowly get up, walk over to the interviewer say "thank you" and the POW right in the kisser.
 
Yeah those 6 pinky size bolts climb at 8000 fpm!

Rumor is the schedule change will take place within the next 6 weeks. Sounds like a good time to get your resume together!!!
