Heard that pilot's are getting pretty thin down there and you guys are doing a lot of overtime. Also heard that there is a possiblity that they were going to start hiring 500TT again, with day VFR only.....any truth behind that?

Yeah, guess we're losing a lot of folks to the regionals. That and the training dept had their heads where the sun don't shine. There's about 20 or so captains in the current class, so we should be back to proper staffing in a couple months (we hope). Don't know for sure, but haven't heard anything about 500 hour VFR only new-hires. I do know we're looking for CFI's to do part 91 training in the Lance with a chance to become line pilots when they hit 135 IFR mins though.

I concur,

Looks like AMF is in catch up mode-hopefully they will be adequately staffed by the time "peak" occurs, otherwise it may get ugly.

Jumpseat?

Not to hijack the thread, but anyone know if AMF pilots get jumpseat privlidges with other carriers?

Got a buddy that flies a 1900 for AMF out of SAT and he said they lost jump seat privileges with Southwest.

As per our Ops bulletin dated 8-4-2004 our Southwest jumpseat privilege was reinstated. Now, if something has happened recently that is news to me.

Speaking of AMF I had a question... you guys say you get a "car and hotel room" for most runs. Can someone elaborate on this? Is it a rental or a beater? Instead of crashing in the pilot lounge you get a hotel room? What type of hotels?

Just curious of the lifestyle. I know it's not a glamarous job.

Most of the cars are anything from a newer model Volvo, to a late 90's BMW,Saab, or Hummer. Ok..., enough sarcasm. Most of the cars aren't the greatest but they run and get you where you need to go and do give you a little bit of freedom during your layover.

Layovers are at hotels such as Ramada Inn, Hampton Inn, Comfort Inn, Best Western, etc. Some cities have layover apartments. I don't stay in those very often so maybe someone can elaborate on their condition.

AZaviator pretty much has it right, depending on the domicile the hotels can be very good, in regards to the layovers and cars that's another story.

Most of the layover cars are in quite poor condition and the layover apartments also. This is simply due to the fact that the pilots themselves do a poor job of keeeping them shipshape.

I am fortunate to fly runs that have a hotel layover exclusively.
