Are you sure it was actually a stick? It probably started out as an automatic and just worked better pretending it was a stick.

The thing I remember was that every time I turned a corner it sounded like I was grinding the axle off. I was told to bring it to a mechanic to have it fixed and he said he was not going to waste his time writing up another proposal it. I guess every pilot before me was told the same stuff and nothing was ever done.

Don't forget the Colt in EKA, with the hood held down by bungee cords.

And the one in VIS had no 3rd gear. Mercifully, they retired that one and replaced it with a Focus.
 
Ahhh....the memories. Nothing like driving an Americolt throught the hood.

Seriously though it's a good place to go build some time and move on. I had an enjoyable 6 month stay there before heading off to a regional.
 
I can think of a few more adjectives to describe my stint at AMF and enjoyable definitley isn't in there.

Heck no, we can atleast get another 20-30 more years out of that thing!
Its currently flying out of Phoenix.
 
What lasts longer an ameriflight colt or lance? I could tell you that the lance saw maintenance more times than the colt did. I remember that colt in UKI with the bungee cords holding down the hood. I remember driving around in it and people laughing at that piece of crap.

I would never forget the day that the colt died on me in redding and i had to call a taxi. I was sweating the whole time to make my departure.
 
Sorry to jump in the middle of the thread, but I was wondering if ameriflight has an ATL or ATL area base. Was on their website and saw their main bases but it mentioned they had other bases but didn't see them listed.

Also, where are the lears based?

How possible would it be to get assigned SLC when hired? Can anyone confirm the new lower time requirement?
 
Simple!

Be prepared to be flexible with domicile assignment at initial hire and you'll be in like Flint!

That's probably the same one that was there back in '97. There was a guy that took the thing offroading....not intentionally, he just fell asleep. DOH! I think it bent the frame and the rear axle...the thing had a wicked hop to it from the rear axle when you got over about 65...and I don't think they were ever able to get the front end alignment right after that incident.
 
How does Ameriflight feel about guard pilots? Are they flexable with us going on orders every so often?

I don't know about pilots specifically, but when I was there, there was another pilot who is in the reserve and it didn't seem to be a proble whatsoever.

As a reserve pilot and current AMF Capt., I can say AMF goes out of its way to support my training. Currently, if scheduled reserve service begins mid-week and you begin your assigned bid for the week, AMF will pay you your bid schedule while you may not be there for the entire week. The only exception is the two week annual training. For that you either have to take a leave of absence or eat up your vacation.
