I did the flying out of Sacramento to Lake Tahoe for a while. It was the biggest Hunk of $hit car I had ever seen until I drove a bigger hunk of $hit out of Visalia CA. Both of them were 80ish Dodge Colts. The one in Visalia leaked so much oil that we were going to get kicked out of the apartments. Probably because people were putting aviation oil in it. The Apartment in Lake Tahoe was not great but it was a full day layover in LAKE TAHOE. What a great summer of mountain biking and hiking!

Ususally if it is a nice hotel there is not car. Crap hotel or apartment there is a car. Jackson Wy had a pretty good apartment but the same type of Crappy DODGE COLT! The company must search far and wide for the ugliest hunks of crap they can find.

Give me a *&^%$ break.......

If you're looking to build some of the best flight time one can EARN, get any base, any position here at AMF. If you're looking for four star accomodations, go back to college and get a law degreee.

AMF pays its pilots a very "fair" wage. They do what they can to make you comfortable. This is a day by day operation. With that said, aircraft, positions, hotels, crew cars, all of it, can be, and have been, moved/reassigned at a moments notice.

AMF has never furloughed! My check has always cashed.

Buncha wussies.

Ah, the good ole Americolt! But hey, when you're done whining about the crappy car and 2 star hotel why don't you go talk to the guy flying the Caravan who sleeps in the plane at night because his company doesn't provide jack. Most of the layover cars are still pretty ragged, but the bases are getting late model Focuses or the like, not too shabby. Also, if you take the time to tell someone the car is unsafe they'll do something about it. Talk to HR if your base managers won't help you. I've heard about Michelle in HR reaming base managers for being cheap when it comes to vehicle or layover condition.

BULL CRAP

I complained so much about that **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED** colt in Sacramento. The piece of junk is probably still there years later. Hunk of crap will be driven by the cock roaches when they take over the earth.

Don't get me wrong. There was a lot of freight trash that had it bad. For a first job Ameriflight was a great company. When I left there I had Super scan from all the IFR no autopilot crappy weather night flying.
MX was great. Training was great. The planes were Old and the work was hard. Some runs were time builders but a lot did not give you more than a couple hours a day. I had months were I worked over twenty days of flying and logged 30 hours. One hour out to the layover, Spend ten hours {Visalia CA, Redding CA, Etc) , one hour back.

frieghterguy,

I do not question AMF on the quality of cars and accomodation it provides-just the pilot's who are largely responsible for thier deterioration!

I remember that colt in visalia! It had a pan in the back that whenever you park the car, it was automatic to put it underneath the car. When it was time to drive it back, you would put the oil that was collected in the pan back in the car. I am surprised that it is still running.

While i was there, i remember another pilot that took the colt to the mountains for a fishing trip. I couldnt believe that it made it. That colt never dies!
